JOB SUMMARY
This position works under general supervision of Nursing Supervisor, Clinic Manager, or Clinical Practice Manager to provide nursing triage of all patient messages received via telephone or MyChart. The triage nurse will demonstrate sound clinical judgment that utilizes careful listening, critical thinking and assessment skills.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
Licenses and Certifications (RN) REGISTERED NURSE by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Preferred
Experience 2 years of ambulatory clinical nursing experience or emergency room experience is preferred.
JOB DUTIES
Utilizes strong listening skills to interpret subtle indications of the patient's complaint to form a thorough assessment of the patient's problem without the ability to visually observe or assess. Follows clinic-specific protocols and/or professional judgment and assessment skills to identify the nature and urgency of patient needs to determine the appropriate disposition. Provides patient education and advice to improve continuity of care, avoid unnecessary visits to the emergency room and reduce risks from medical complications. Collects sufficient data related to the presenting problem and medical history and recognizes symptom patterns to provide safe, timely disposition of health-related problems. Refills medications per clinic-specific protocols. Duties may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records; (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records. Performs other duties as assigned.
