Dosimetrist
with the multispecialty clinic at our
Ingalls Memorial Hospital . Under general supervision, calculates dose distributions based on patient input data and a prescription plan selected by the radiation oncologist. Determines radiation producing equipment settings for the specific prescription for patients to be treated. The job involves using computer software to identify normal structures to design radiation apertures and directions such that the radiation reaches the tumor while sparing critical organs. Develops brachytherapy plans and assists the Physicist in their implementation. Essential Job Functions: Plans a treatment technique by means of computer and/or manual computations, following the dose prescription specified by the Radiation Therapist, to deliver specified dose to the defined target volume. Designs and fabricates beam modifying devices. Records results of dosage calculations in the patient's radiation therapy chart and verifies the accuracy of all entries. Assists in intracavitary and interstitial sealed source procedures, and in the subsequent manual and/or computer calculation of the dose distribution of these procedures. Keeps current on new treatment planning techniques. Carries duties for the most part independently, with consultations with Dosimetrist II and/or the Physicist as needed. Communicates results to Physicist and Radiation Therapist, makes adjustments as needed. Performs other duties as requested by senior management. Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science or higher degree or certification in Radiation Therapy Technology and completion of a Medical Dosimetry training program. One to two years experience working as a Dosimetrist. Eligible for certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board.
