Job Description
Direct and manage all practices and activities in the Finance and Accounting functions to ensure Credit Union compliance with State and NCUA rules and regulations. Manage auditing, accounting, and recordkeeping activities of the Credit Union to ensure they meet generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP). Make recommendations relating to budget preparation, income forecasts, and operational changes as needed. Assist the President and CEO in the sound operations of the Credit Union.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting (50%) Oversee and manage the financial, accounting, and bookkeeping functions of the Credit Union to include Accounts Payable, General Ledger, VolCorp reconciliation, Credit Cards, Financial, and regulatory reporting. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the accounting function. Ensure policies and procedures reflect current regulations and are completed by the staff. Manage the Operations Specialist to maximize productivity and efficiency. Train the Operations Specialist to back up the Chief Financial Officer. Coordinate an accounting system that reflects the financial position of the Credit Union. Develop, perform, and oversee various internal audit procedures, i.e., cash counts, teller drawer audits, review of employee accounts, loan documentation, wire transfers, etc. Operations (30%) Assure the daily operations are coordinated with the financial reporting of the Credit Union. Work with the Operations Specialist to prepare operation and account reports. Assure daily reports are completed accurately and timely. Oversee the reconciliation of the VCU checking account and general ledger accounts. Perform monthly reports as assigned by the President and CEO. Resolve deposit and financial issues as they are escalated to you. Work with the Branch Managers on teller and member service related issues. Member Service (10%) Monitor Credit Union activities and implement operational procedures to maximize efficiency and quality of work that benefit the member experience. Provide back-up support to the teller line and/or Member Service functions as needed. Assist the Branch Managers and President & CEO on resolving complex member complaints. Administrative (10%) Provide mentoring and coaching to support and develop staff. Provide other job duties as assigned by the President & CEO. Along with the Branch Managers and Lenders, back up in case of absence of the President & CEO. Supervisory Relationships
This position will have supervisory responsibility over the Operations Specialist. This position will report to the Credit Union President and CEO. Qualifications
Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Accounting or related field is required. At least 3 years in a lead accounting management role is required, with a preference towards credit union accounting management experience. Sound knowledge of financial institution regulations and laws, credit union is preferred.
