Position:
Finance Director at the Minnesota State High School League.
The League is seeking an outstanding Director of Finance to fill this position, beginning as soon as January 15, 2025, and not later than February 15, 2025. The Director of Finance reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for all financial duties for the Minnesota State High School League at both the League Office as well as the 16 Administrative Regions. In addition, the Director of Finance serves the MSHSL Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization responsible for managing grants to Member Schools.
Description:
The MSHSL Director of Finance is a leadership-level position working directly with the Executive Director, Senior Associate Director and Director of Information Services. The Director of Finance is responsible for budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and revenue management.
Develop, administer, monitor and analyze the League budget.
Annually develop the League budget by estimating ongoing costs and expenses as well as projected programming.
Prepare multi-year forecasts of the overall financial condition of the League and administrative regions.
Prepare capital and long-term facilities maintenance plans with the Executive Director.
Responsible for providing oversight on all financial activities and programs for the League.
Oversee overall finances for the 16 Administrative Regions.
Prepare and file all required reports including Not for Profit tax returns, financial reports for member schools and reports to the Commissioner of Education.
Assure compliance with League policies, state and federal laws and general accounting procedures and principles.
Serve as financial staff liaison to the Board of Directors and the Audit/Finance Committee.
Oversee annual audit by State Auditor and support Administrative Regions with their audits.
Supervise finance department staff.
Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate department staff.
Assist in facilitating professional growth through instruction and goal setting.
Support all directors in leading their programs and tournaments through financial analysis and resources.
Support staff and League with human resources responsibilities.
Oversee the financial aspects of the League’s insurance plans and payroll functions.
Support human resources needs in the areas of employee benefit plans, unemployment, etc.
Training and Experience
All items below are strongly desired for this position:
Undergraduate degree in accounting, business management, finance or related field.
Minimum of five years of experience as a finance director or comparable position.
Experienced in and knowledge of nonprofit finance and legal requirements.
CPA or CMA Preferred.
Knowledge of the history, philosophy, mission and programs of the League.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Leadership and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Effective written and verbal communication skills with all constituencies.
Ability to analyze, interpret, compare and present data.
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work well as a team member.
Excellent math and data management skills.
Knowledge of budget development, analysis and management.
Proficient in productivity software, presentation software, human resources and financial systems.
Display a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Demonstrate accuracy in all areas of responsibility.
Salary and Benefits
Salary based on education, certification and experience. Range: $110,000 to $140,000
