SUMMARY OF DUTIES Under the supervision of the Shelter Manager or Program Supervisor, the Shelter Services Advocate is responsible for promoting an environment that provides participants a sense of empowerment, improves their well-being, and increases their ability to live safely and independently. The Shelter Services Advocate is primarily responsible for ensuring that participants' basic needs are met, i.e., they have food, clothing and shelter, and that they are safe and supported while in the shelter program. Provides Trauma-Informed engagement and services to all participants, where the focus is on building healthy relationships and utilizing the healthy relationships to empower participants and help them to heal from their trauma. EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS High school, plus additional courses or specialized training at business or community college, or other formal training facility or program. Requires ability to understand and carry out assigned duties effectively. EXPERIENCE Two years plus. Experience in working with abused spouses and children, or related client group preferred. Good verbal and written skills. Ability to handle petty cash. Good interpersonal skills. Able to work evenings and weekends as needed. Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision. On some shifts, the Shelter Worker is the only staff member on duty.
