Wireless PHY System Bringup Engineer
Sunnyvale, California, United States
Hardware
You will be part of a dynamic group and have the rare and extraordinary opportunity to craft products that will delight and encourage millions of Apple’s customers. In this role, you will be responsible for bringup, integration and tuning of PHY/Radio on internal silicon solutions from pre-silicon, through bringup, and until shipping in your favorite Apple products.
Description
In this individual technical contributor role, you will be responsible for the pre- and post-silicon bringup of key PHY and radio system for state-of-the-art wireless SOC products. Your responsibilities will include:
Transmit and receive chain bringup, tuning, and debug;
Optimizing PHY and calibration algorithms such as TPC, AGC, TSSI, RSSI, interference mitigation and others.
Collaborating closely with other PHY systems and algorithm engineers as well as MAC, Radio, and digital circuit designers.
Developing chip control drivers and reference implementations in the bringup environment and working closely with firmware engineers to integrate these algorithms into the firmware.
Guiding and assisting the characterization team in identifying and resolving reported issues.

BS and 10+ years of relevant experience.
Key Qualifications
Experience, knowledge and skills on wireless system design, integration, bring up, characterization and debug of wireless communication systems, ideally on an SOC.
Proficiency in wireless transceivers, RF front-end architectures and performance tradeoffs.
Proficiency in system-level parametrics, such as EVM and Sensitivity, and impairment mitigation.
Understanding of communication theory and signal processing related algorithms (such as timing recovery, signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, RF impairment estimation and correction, channel estimation, equalization).
Proficiency using and understanding of the theory of operation of lab equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, power meter).
Experience with at least one of Matlab, Python, Shell scripting and/or C/C++ is required.
Experience with automation infrastructure development (traceability, repeatability) and related tools (GIT, CI, database, reporting tools).
Knowledge in existing wireless communication protocols: 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, LTE/WCDMA/GSM, or 802.11ad/ay.
Preferred advanced degrees MS or Ph.D in Electrical Engineer or Computer Engineering.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
