Founded in San Francisco in 1902, the LightHouse’s purpose is to promote the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind or visually impaired. OVERVIEW: The Controller is a key, full-time staff position at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LightHouse) in San Francisco. The Controller reports to the CFO and has responsibility for managing the accounting operations of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and internal policies and procedures. May interpret accounting reports to management and board. Assumes responsibility for the financial function in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer. QUALIFICATIONS: BS degree in Accounting preferred, although relevant work experience may also be considered. A strong, working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and practices is essential. Minimum 4-6 years related experience or equivalent. Working knowledge of forecasting and financial reports. Demonstrated ability to interpret economic conditions and anticipate the impact on the organization. Basic competence in duties and tasks of supervised employees. Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method. Ability to work with all levels of management. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. Proven leadership and business acumen skills. Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate subordinates. Commitment to excellence and high standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient or working knowledge with Calendaring, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, as well other Software Applications including but not limited to QuickBooks, Vena, Business Central, Financial Edge and Mar-Kov. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages all accounting functions including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger. Reviews, evaluates and implements accounting systems, policies, and procedures. Ensures all financial reports are prepared in a timely, GAAP compliant and accurate manner. Prepares and presents financial statements and related reports including but not limited to balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, and variance analysis. Collaborates with Review and Compliance team to ensure monthly balancing of books and monthly account reviews. Collaborates with Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team to ensure workflow efficiencies, accurate planning and reporting. Oversees accounts receivable function including but not limited to billing, invoicing, collecting, and evaluating authorization fulfillment. Monitors receivables to ensure credit risk is mitigated. Oversees account’s payable function including but not limited to compliance with 1099 reporting, expense reporting, capitalization policy, and purchase order procedures. Assists with company strategic planning. Assists with special projects as required. Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Directly supervises 5-6 employees within the Transaction Team Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for extended periods daily Ability to operate standard office equipment Must be able to independently travel to all LightHouse physical locations and events as needed.
