JPF10016 The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of U.S. Latina/o literature and culture, with a start date of 07/01/2025. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Spanish or related field in hand by the time of appointment. We are particularly interested in applicants who work on U.S. Latina/o literature written in Spanish as well as English, and in candidates with a transnational approach to the field. An emphasis on U.S.-Mexico border studies is especially welcome. The department is open to a wide variety of theoretical, historical, and critical approaches to the field of U.S. Latina/o literature and culture. Native or near-native knowledge of Spanish is a requirement for the position. The position involves teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses. UCLA aims to achieve federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution by 2025. In preparation for this designation, the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost have sponsored this search in order to recruit exceptional scholars whose teaching, scholarship and/or mentoring has strong ties to Latinx experiences in the United States. This search is conducted in partnership between the Chicano Studies Research Center and the Division of Humanities. Candidates should submit a letter of interest, CV, writing sample of no more than twenty-five pages, evidence of teaching effectiveness, diversity statement, the names and contact information of at least three references who may be contacted for a letter of recommendation at a later stage, an authorization to release information form, and a syllabus for an upper-division undergraduate course that could be offered under the department's “Topics in U.S. Latina/o Studies” rubric.
