SEVIS Compliance Coordinator

Description
Responsible for ensuring full compliance with all aspects of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) in the, or in coordination with, International Student & Scholar Services Office (ISSSO). Counsels international students and scholars on immigration laws, and cross-cultural adjustments. Investigates, interprets, reconciles, verifies, monitors, and updates data reported to SEVIS. Manages alert to international students and scholars. Supervises data entry personnel on SEVIS reporting procedures in developing, coordinating, and implementing appropriate policies and procedures on new and existing data collection processes. Utilizes ongoing and timely communications with appropriate University faculty and staff. Authorizes international students and scholars, through Department of Homeland Security procedures, to receive visa status, extensions of stay, employment and practical training, reduced course loads and transfer to and from the University of Houston. Coordinates student and scholar orientation and check-in; counsels and advises students and scholars on cultural adjustment issues. Communicates and advises academic departments on visa concerns, and immigration status of international student and scholar employment. Coordinates employment seminars, and processes grants for international students and scholars. Assists in training new counselors, designs and updates office handouts, forms, and websites. Compiles ISSSO reports and publications. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelors and 3 years experience
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
