Job Summary

The Communications Specialist is responsible for communication strategies that include press relations, extensive writing, email marketing, and website content. This position will require some flexibility with after-hours and weekend events and availability by personal cell phone and/or other similar communication devices as needed.

Main Responsibilities

Content Creation & Distribution Develop, write, and distribute content for the company website, press releases, newsletters, articles, blog posts, and infographics. Create engaging multimedia content (text, image, video) optimized for different platforms, ensuring consistent messaging. Collaborate with the digital marketing team to implement SEO strategies and optimize web content for search engine visibility. Press Relations & Media Engagement

Distribute press releases, maintain regular communication with media outlets, and proactively pitch stories to relevant journalists and publications. Develop press kits and media materials to support campaigns, events, and significant announcements. Media Inquiry Management

Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, respond to requests for information, and arrange interviews, statements, and press conferences. Prepare executives and key stakeholders for media interviews, including drafting talking points and conducting media training if needed. Editorial Content Calendar Management

Create, manage, and update the editorial content calendar for press releases, blog articles, email marketing, and newsletters. Ensure timely publication and distribution of content across various platforms, coordinating with relevant teams. Stakeholder & Influencer Relationship Building

Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including influencers, media professionals, partners, and community organizations. Develop communication strategies to enhance collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders. Editorial & Proofreading Support

Proofread, edit, and update content produced by marketing, community outreach, and other departments, ensuring alignment with company messaging and brand voice. Ensure that all materials adhere to company style guides and communication standards. Media Coverage & PR Database Management

Maintain a comprehensive PR database, tracking media coverage and ensuring up-to-date press contact information for outreach purposes. Monitor media outlets for coverage related to the organization and relevant industry trends. Email Campaign Strategy and Planning

Develop and execute email marketing strategies that align with overall business goals. Create a content calendar and plan email sequences based on programs, classes, and events. Segment email lists for targeted marketing and personalized communication. Campaign Execution and Analytics

Scheduling email campaigns in Constant Contact or a similar platform. Ensure emails are sent at optimal times for maximum engagement. Monitor email performance metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, bounce rates, and conversions. Develop strategies to grow email subscriber lists. Additional Responsibilities

Assist with general marketing efforts, participate in organization events and perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

Superior interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Must have skills, knowledge, and experience in the design/execution of marketing, communications, and public relations activities & materials. Experience in writing media releases, making presentations, and negotiating with media, including buying & ad placement. Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Website management/design, Social Media management, and Mass email software. Photography/videography skills preferred. Requires attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with co-workers to accomplish daily and long-term objectives. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Conducts oneself with professional behavior & appearance in the workplace & in public. Education, Training, and Experience

Associate or bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, or related area preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A minimum of 2-3 years of verifiable work experience in marketing, communications, or public relations. Writing samples are preferred with the submission of a resume. Physical Requirements

Ability to remain stationary, occasionally standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Ability to lift 15 pounds occasionally.
