MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES As a Systems / Cloud Engineer II within STAAR Surgical's Information Technology team, this individual plays a critical role working closely with the business and across the Information Technology organization defining, delivering and supporting IT business solutions and supporting roadmaps. In summary this position: responsible for the overall systems and cloud infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration of cloud services, technical services and support; defines specifications for operating systems applications and modifies/maintains existing applications; designs, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructure including hardware, software, and various configurations; designs and deploys systems based on business/user requirements. • Performs maintenance on existing operating systems and hardware. • Evaluates, engineers, tests, recommends, and implements secure infrastructures. • Acts as a resource for system escalation issues. • Documents platforms and processes for ongoing operations. • Gathers business requirements for system design. • Researches and develops future technologies. • Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately. Investigates and resolves system problems and system performance. • Schedules and coordinates installation and maintenance of software/hardware on the network and ensures compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software. • Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. • Provides ongoing information to leadership, customers, and peers regarding enhancements, innovations and solutions. • Responsible for following company specific systems engineering standards. • Responsible for generating and communicating metrics. • Plans and coordinates with various cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure present and future capacity/scalability. • In-depth disciplinary knowledge; leverages business acumen and subject matter expertise. • Provides deep subject matter expertise, advice and program delivery. • Contributes to the development of new techniques and plans within area of expertise. • In-depth understanding of the company goals, customer requirements and knowledge of competitor practices. • Thorough understanding of the company's business priorities, strategy and direction. • Thorough understanding and management of internal customer business needs and expectations. • Manages projects and program execution. • Designs and implements global infrastructures. • Helps set the direction of the systems engineer group. • Mentors/coaches less experienced system engineers. • Drives projects that are cross-functional and integrates various systems/platforms. • Prioritizes work as it relates to the achievement of STAAR's short and long- term business goals and objectives. • Responsible for complex testing and analysis of all elements of the computer systems. • Provides guidance and direction to junior level system engineers. • Establishes system priorities as they relate to STAAR's achievement of short and long-term business goals and objectives. • Analyzes and provides innovative solutions to system engineering and design projects. • Represents the organization in front of critical audiences such as clients/customers/vendors/executives REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & TRAINING • Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent experience • Certification in cloud and virtualization technologies such as Azure, AWS, VMWare, and Hyper-V EXPERIENCE • Preferred minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in similar Systems Engineering role, with emphasis in cloud services and applications • Preferred minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Information Technology SKILLS • Works on abstract and complex problems requiring evaluation of intangible variables. • Integrates trends, data and information into plans, deliverables and recommendations. • Develops complex solutions to business problems through in- depth analysis, coordination and negotiation with key decision makers that improve business performance and contribute to corporate goals and strategic intent. • Uses experience, innovation and judgment to make decisions that may be based on partial information. • Considers company-wide implications of decisions and recommendations. • Anticipates operational, program, and implementation issues and develops preventative measures. • Adapts projects, programs or methods based on customer or business partner feedback. • Expert knowledge of common operating systems such as Windows 10, 11, Server 2019 and 2022, Linux and Unix • Expert knowledge of virtualization hypervisors such as VMware and Hyper-V • Advanced knowledge of remote access solutions such as Citrix and VDI • Advanced knowledge of domain registration, public DNS and SSL certificate management • Advanced knowledge with Public Cloud hosting providers, strong preference towards Microsoft's Azure hosting platform. Experience with containerization a strong plus • Advanced knowledge of common scripting languages and powershell • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft O365 services, such as Exchange Online, Teams, Sharepoint and OneDrive. • Advanced knowledge of authentication platforms enabling SSO, MFA leveraging SAML and Azure based services. • Advanced knowledge of SaaS integrations with Azure / Active Directory • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Pay range: $110K - $140K Final compensation/salary will be dependent on experience.
