Wastewater Collection Operator III (Operations)

operates light, medium, and heavy trucks (dump trucks, front end loaders, track loaders, bulldozers, backhoes, track backhoes, mini excavators, tandems, and excavators) and construction equipment for transportation to and from the motor transport facility to support wastewater collection system operation and maintenance.

Loading, hauling, and unloading various equipment, materials, and supplies to and from worksites to complete active jobs. Supervision Received Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written/verbal instructions to accomplish assigned tasks; may assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associate, apprentice, or semi-skilled employee in the group. Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

May perform other duties as assigned. Organizes trucks for specific tasks to perform work efficiently and timely. Performs preventative maintenance and inspections of equipment daily to ensure proper operations. Operates rubber tire loader to clean vacant lots and roadside dumping stations, as well as load trucks and push dirt. Uses various tools such as shovels to mix coals, chains to load plates, sledgehammer to drive spikes, and coal mix to secure plates. Uses other various tools such as a shovel to dig, hand tools to perform minor maintenance, and picks to loosen materials. Communicates with Watershed Crew Supervisor and co-workers with two-way radio to receive instructions, directions, and exchange information. Communicates with the public to provide direction and answers questions. Ensures all duties assigned on the daily task sheets are completed and documented. Assists crew with other support on-site such as placing traffic control devices and general site cleanup. Documents work with photos and data. Decision Making Generally, operates under the specific direction of crew supervisors.

May assist in the task of guiding work of less experienced employees. Selects from multiple standardized procedures, written instructions, and methods to accomplish assigned tasks. Leadership Provided Ability to work productively on a team and provide guidance to lower-level team members as needed. General site safety for water/wastewater operations and maintenance Experience operating light to heavy duty trucks and equipment Experience operating low-boy truck and trailer, excavator, track loader, and bulldozer; can pull low-boy truck and trailer to haul equipment Uses mechanic tools to perform preventative maintenance Familiar with air compressors, battery chargers, and shovels Troubleshoots heavy equipment maintenance Communicates with customers to successfully address issues Adapts to changes in work environment Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience High school diploma or GED Four (4) years of experience operating light to medium-sized construction trucks or related equipment such as a backhoe, crane truck, excavator, rubber tire loader, or lo-boy, or any combination of education, training, and experience (6 years preferred); supervisory experience preferred Licensures and Certifications Georgia CDL Class A (Required) Certified Crane Operator (Preferred) Certified Heavy Equipment Operator (Preferred) Essential Capabilities and Work Environment Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
