JOB SUMMARY
Paraeducators assist certificated staff in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment; and provides routine behavioral and academic support. Depending on assignment may also provide for supervision of special needs students on school busses or during transport; may attend to student health needs, including toileting and administration of certain medical procedures only as allowed and instructed by the school nurse; and may provide for other one-on-one support for student instructional activities.
* Assist the classroom teacher in preparing the learning environment for the purpose of providing support for educational activities. * Assists students with a variety of learning activities, including providing group or individual instruction under the guidance of the certificated staff member. * Assists teachers and staff with student assessment and conferencing activities for the purpose of conducting required assessments and supporting the educational program. * Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities for the purpose of ensuring effective communication and documentation of program activities. * Assists the certified teacher or others with the supervision of students during non-instructional times for the purpose of ensuring student supervision and safety. * Attends to student personal health and hygiene needs and attend to medical needs under the strict direction of the certificated teacher and/or school nurse for the purposes of ensuring personal health and medical needs are met. * Assists with student behavior management activities for the purpose of ensuring a safe and orderly educational environment. * Manages classroom materials and equipment for special needs students for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items for the educational program. * Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of assessing the matter and taking appropriate action. * Responds to inquiries of students and staff for the purpose of providing program information and/or direction. * Attends meetings and/or training activities to maintain knowledge of program and/or required licensing.
POSITION DETAILS
* 7.5 Hours/Day for the remainder of the 2024-25 School Year.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The individual must be able to perform each essential job duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the job at a fully acceptable level.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION
* A minimum of either an AA degree, or ParaPro Certification required. * Must comply with state required paraeducator competencies. * Demonstrates aptitude for the work to be performed. * Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may deem appropriate or acceptable.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
* Ability to write reports and correspondence consistent with the duties of this position. * Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback. * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints. * Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Maintains appropriate confidentiality. * Promotes a harassment-free environment. * Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork. * Ability to learn and utilize office equipment, computers, and software especially as systems are upgraded. * Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position. * Excellent computer and keyboarding skills. * Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism. * Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, state and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position. * Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. * Ability to use independent "reasonable" judgment and demonstrates initiative to act independent. * Flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
