The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. The San Francisco Health Network is the City's only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers. The Population Health Division (PHD) provides core public health services for the City and County of San Francisco: health protection, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and disaster preparedness and response. Behavioral Health Services operates in conjunction with SFHN and provides a range of mental health and substance use treatment services.
Job Description
The San Francisco Department of Public Health's Trauma Department at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) seeks skilled 2328 Nurse Practitioners to join our Trauma Surgery and Neurosurgery teams.
Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the 2328 Nurse Practitioner (Trauma Surgery & Neurosurgery Specialty) functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) coordinates and implements aspects of trauma care (medical and surgical) of the injured and acute care surgery patients. The NP provides effective health care in maintaining collaborative and consultative relationship with all members of the interdisciplinary care team while providing excellent and timely care to the patients admitted to ZSFG. In addition, the NP provides continuity in attending outpatient clinics for follow up. Provides routine preventive and continuity care to adult and/or pediatric patients, including comprehensive history-taking and physical examinations. Orders diagnostic tests such as lab work, imaging (X-rays, E.K.G.s), and other specialty-specific tests. Identifies and manages patients with unstable chronic diseases within the clinical specialty. Delivers urgent care to acutely ill patients, addressing trauma and general surgery needs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Develops acute care plans for inpatient management. Assesses, diagnoses, develops treatment plans, and prescribes medications. Counsels and educates patients, collaborates with the healthcare team, and orients medical students and surgical residents on Trauma and Neurosurgery protocols. Consults with physicians on complex patient diagnoses and treatments. Maintains accurate medical records while adhering to patient privacy regulations. Participates in staff meetings, patient care conferences, and quality improvement activities.
The 2328 Nurse Practitioner (Trauma Surgery & Neurosurgery Specialty) performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: LICENSE : Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing;
AND LICENSE : Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nurses;
AND CERTIFICATION : Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) American Nurses Association - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Pediatric Nursing Certification Board National Certification Corporation (NCC) for the Women's Health Care and Neonatal Nursing Specialties American Association of Critical Care Nurses
SPECIALTY AREA REQUIREMENTS: CERTIFICATION : Specialization as an Acute Care NP or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP;
AND CERTIFICATION : Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring. Minimum one year of experience in critical care Experience in an acute care hospital (a hospital which provides 24-hour inpatient care, including the following basic services: Medical, Nursing, Surgical, Anesthesia, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy and Dietary Services).
One-year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).
