Senior Cloud Engineer
in Washington, D.C. (Hybrid). We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to drive cloud engineering initiatives and provide hands-on support for our critical cloud environments. In this role, you will enable large-scale cloud deployments, optimize and maintain infrastructure for performance and security, and troubleshoot complex system operations. You will leverage your deep expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) to design, deploy, and manage scalable solutions which meet stringent compliance and security standards. This role involves direct interaction with stakeholders, focusing on both technical problem-solving and customer satisfaction.
Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
:
Lead the design, deployment, and management of secure cloud infrastructures leveraging Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, ensuring high availability and performance. Oversee cloud projects from inception to completion, including design, migration strategies, and optimization of cloud-native solutions. Manage Kubernetes environments, including both self-managed clusters and cloud-native services (AKS, EKS, GKE), ensuring scalability, security, and cost-efficiency. Perform hands-on configuration and troubleshooting of cloud security tools, including Azure Firewall, Network Security Groups, Azure Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, and Identity & Access Management (IAM) solutions. Automate cloud infrastructure deployments using tools like Terraform, Ansible, ARM, Bicep, and PowerShell. Drive process improvements and automation to enhance operational efficiency and minimize downtime. Actively engage in incident management, problem resolution, and root cause analysis for critical cloud services. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud operations, implement DevSecOps best practices, and ensure compliance with industry standards (FedRAMP, NIST, ISO 27001). Provide mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with cloud architects to align project goals with strategic IT initiatives. Support on-call rotations, ensuring timely resolution of customer issues and continuous operational excellence.
Basic Qualifications:
Active Top Secret clearance, willing to accept an interim Top Secret clearance. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering, systems administration, and infrastructure management. Proven experience in deploying and managing cloud services (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud), with a focus on IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions. Strong expertise in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, ARM, Bicep, JSON, YAML). Advanced skills in cloud security, identity management (Azure AD, OAuth), and network configurations (firewalls, VPNs, load balancers). Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) and automation of cloud infrastructure. Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex system issues, including root cause analysis and incident management. Ability to work in customer-facing roles, providing technical guidance and support for critical cloud environments.
Desired Skills:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Architect, or similar. Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architectures. Experience with cloud cost optimization, monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, Google Stackdriver), and performance tuning. Familiarity with compliance standards (FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, ISO 27001) and cloud security frameworks. Strong understanding of automation and orchestration tools for cloud environments. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management.
