We are seeking a motivated and experienced Supplier Quality Engineer with 5-7 years of experience to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the primary quality interface between our Albany Engineered Composites locations and the external supply base. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our suppliers' products, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining compliance with aerospace standards.

You will provide clear communication of requirements and performance feedback to suppliers, while also acting as a conduit for quality information back to internal functions. This position will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance supplier performance and support our mission to deliver top-notch aerospace solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Supplier Onboarding, Evaluation, and Audits:
  • Conduct thorough supplier assessments, audits, and evaluations to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) and specific purchase order requirements.
Product Quality Oversight:
  • Manage all aspects of product quality for assigned suppliers, including inspection methods, data collection and analysis, non-conforming material dispositions, and overall product/process quality assurance.
  • Support MRB process for supplier materials.
  • Planning and performing in-process, first article and final source inspection of product at suppliers in accordance with applicable drawing and purchase order requirements.
  • Support incoming inspection processes to ensure quality standards are met.
Quality Assurance Development:
  • Create and implement quality assurance plans for suppliers, encompassing inspection and testing procedures to ensure product quality and drive continuous improvement
Root Cause Analysis:
  • Oversee the Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process by collaborating with suppliers to identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies such as the 5 Whys and Fishbone Diagram to determine the root causes of non-conformances.
  • Ensure that corrective actions are effectively implemented and monitored for effectiveness, while maintaining oversight of all aspects of product quality to prevent recurrence of issues.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
  • Driving continuous product / process improvements using statistical / analytical improvement tools such as Six Sigma, lean methodologies and other quality improvement tools.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier performance, quality metrics, and audit findings. Prepare comprehensive reports for management and stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate closely with procurement, engineering, and production teams to communicate quality requirements and facilitate new product introductions (NPIs).
Training and Support:
  • Provide training and support to suppliers on quality requirements, processes and standards, fostering a culture of quality and accountability throughout the supply chain.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in supplier quality engineering, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and aerospace regulations (AS9100, AS13100, FAA regulations).
  • Experience operating in an organization with government quality oversight a plus
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFAR requirements
  • Experience with APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, FAI, SPC, Six Sigma
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex data.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and quality management software.
  • Ability to travel up to 50-75% of the time, mostly within the United States.
