IoT Network Engineer (The Connected Systems Architect)
Unreal Gigs, San Francisco, CA, United States
Are you excited about designing and optimizing the networks that power the Internet of Things (IoT)? Do you have a passion for ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable communication between thousands of connected devices across industries like smart cities, healthcare, and industrial automation? If you're enthusiastic about managing IoT networks and ensuring their security and efficiency, our client has the perfect opportunity for you. We’re seeking an IoT Network Engineer (aka The Connected Systems Architect) to design, deploy, and maintain IoT communication networks that are secure, scalable, and high-performing.
As an IoT Network Engineer at our client, you’ll work closely with IoT developers, security experts, and hardware teams to ensure the smooth operation of connected devices. You’ll design and manage networks that handle large volumes of data while ensuring low latency and strong security measures. From wireless protocols to cloud connectivity, you’ll be at the forefront of connecting the world through IoT.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Deploy IoT Networks: Architect and deploy IoT communication networks that connect sensors, devices, and gateways across various environments. You’ll design and implement networks that ensure low-latency, high-availability communication using protocols like MQTT, CoAP, LoRaWAN, and Zigbee.
- Optimize Network Performance: Analyze and optimize network performance to ensure efficient data transmission between devices and back-end systems. You’ll troubleshoot network issues and optimize bandwidth usage, latency, and throughput to ensure consistent device performance.
- Manage Wireless and Cloud Connectivity: Ensure seamless integration between IoT devices and cloud platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Google Cloud IoT) using wireless communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and cellular networks (LTE/5G). You’ll design secure and scalable connectivity solutions for real-time data flow.
- Monitor Network Security and Implement Best Practices: Implement robust security measures to protect IoT networks from vulnerabilities, unauthorized access, and cyberattacks. You’ll secure communication channels using encryption, authentication protocols, and firewalls to ensure data integrity and device safety.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with IoT engineers, cloud architects, and security teams to design, test, and deploy network solutions that meet business and technical requirements. You’ll play a key role in integrating network architecture with IoT devices and platforms.
- Troubleshoot and Resolve Network Issues: Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues to maintain uninterrupted device connectivity. You’ll analyze network performance metrics, logs, and diagnostics to identify and resolve connectivity issues and ensure the smooth operation of IoT systems.
- Ensure Compliance with Industry Standards: Ensure that IoT networks comply with industry standards and regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, or NIST. You’ll stay up-to-date with the latest network standards and protocols to ensure network infrastructure meets global security and compliance requirements.
Required Skills:
- IoT Networking Expertise: Strong experience in designing and managing IoT networks, including wireless technologies like LoRa, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE/5G, and network protocols like MQTT, CoAP, and HTTP. You’re skilled in integrating devices and networks with cloud platforms like AWS IoT or Azure IoT.
- Network Security: Expertise in securing IoT networks, including encryption, VPNs, firewalls, and authentication protocols. You know how to prevent unauthorized access and protect data integrity in complex, distributed networks.
- Cloud and Edge Integration: Experience integrating IoT networks with cloud and edge platforms, ensuring real-time data flow and secure communication between devices and cloud services.
- Troubleshooting and Optimization: Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting network performance issues, as well as optimizing for latency, bandwidth, and reliability in large-scale IoT deployments.
- Collaboration and Communication: Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and cloud architects. You’re able to communicate network requirements and solutions clearly.
