AR/VR Developer (The Reality Architect)

Unreal Gigs, San Francisco, CA, United States

Are you passionate about creating immersive experiences that blur the line between the physical and digital worlds? Do you excel at building augmented and virtual reality applications that captivate, engage, and inform? If you’re ready to develop the next generation of AR/VR solutions, our client has the perfect role for you. We’re looking for an AR/VR Developer (aka The Reality Architect) to design, develop, and deploy interactive experiences that redefine how users engage with technology.

As an AR/VR Developer at our client, you’ll collaborate with designers, engineers, and product teams to build and refine AR and VR applications for various industries, from entertainment and gaming to education and healthcare. Your work will be pivotal in creating virtual worlds and augmented layers that offer immersive, interactive experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and Implement AR/VR Applications: Design and build AR/VR applications using game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine. You’ll create engaging experiences that respond seamlessly to user input and environmental factors.
  2. Optimize 3D Models and Animations for Performance: Work with 3D artists to optimize models, textures, and animations for smooth performance on AR/VR devices. You’ll ensure visuals are high-quality yet optimized for real-time processing.
  3. Integrate Sensors and User Interaction: Implement user interaction features, such as gesture control, eye tracking, and haptic feedback. You’ll create intuitive, immersive interactions that enhance the user experience in virtual environments.
  4. Collaborate on UI/UX for Immersive Experiences: Design and refine user interfaces for AR/VR that are easy to navigate and support user goals. You’ll work with designers to create interfaces that are effective in 3D spaces and easy to interact with.
  5. Optimize Applications for Multiple Platforms: Ensure compatibility and optimization for various AR/VR devices, such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, HoloLens, and mobile AR platforms. You’ll troubleshoot platform-specific issues and maintain a consistent experience across devices.
  6. Test, Debug, and Iterate on AR/VR Experiences: Conduct rigorous testing to identify and fix bugs, performance issues, and interaction inconsistencies. You’ll iterate on user feedback to enhance the quality and engagement of AR/VR applications.
  7. Stay Updated on AR/VR Technology and Trends: Continuously research new AR/VR technologies, tools, and methodologies. You’ll bring new ideas to the team and apply emerging techniques to stay at the forefront of AR/VR development.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Game Engines and AR/VR SDKs: Strong experience with Unity or Unreal Engine, along with AR/VR SDKs like ARCore, ARKit, or Vuforia for building immersive applications.
  • 3D Modeling and Animation Knowledge: Familiarity with 3D modeling tools (e.g., Blender, Maya) and animation principles to work effectively with artists and optimize 3D assets.
  • Programming Skills in C# or C++: Proficiency in C# (Unity) or C++ (Unreal Engine) for AR/VR development, with experience in scripting for interactivity and control.
  • User Interaction and Sensor Integration: Experience in designing user interactions and integrating sensors, such as motion tracking and haptic feedback, for engaging experiences.
  • Problem-Solving and Optimization Skills: Strong troubleshooting skills for optimizing performance and resolving platform-specific challenges in AR/VR applications.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Interactive Media, or a related field. Equivalent experience in AR/VR development may be considered.
  • Certifications or specialized training in AR/VR development, Unity, or Unreal Engine are advantageous.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in AR/VR development, with a focus on creating immersive, interactive experiences.
  • Experience with AR/VR hardware, including Oculus, HTC Vive, or HoloLens, and familiarity with mobile AR platforms (ARCore, ARKit).
  • Familiarity with VR/AR design principles for UX/UI is a plus.
