The Department of Breast Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a Senior Scientist to join our efforts in identifying better treatments for our patients with breast cancer and leading our data management and analysis team for the Department’s Cohort and Translational Research program. The Senior Scientist is responsible for the oversight, management and coordination of the data analysis and management related to cohort and translational studies in the Department of Breast Oncology.

The primary focus of the Senior Scientist is the creation of a proactive, knowledgeable and cohesive data analytic and management platform that will support the research community, reporting to the PI of the Cohort and Translational Studies Program in BOC. As part of the main responsibilities overseeing data analysis for specific investigator outcomes and translational studies, the Senior Scientist will work collaboratively to execute the analytic plans and to generate robust datasets with the faculty investigators, the team of cohort programmers/analysts, and the Head of Women’s Cancers Biostatistics and her team of biostatisticians. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing and facilitating all data-related queries, generating study datasets in collaboration with the investigators, programmers and biostatisticians, and maintaining standard data management processes and quality assurance procedures for the department’s databases to meet the needs of the analytic work in the Breast Oncology Program.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing a career of data analysis, contributing as a highly-motivated leader and team player, and helping lead cohort and translational research to help improve patient outcomes and treatment options in collaboration with the faculty leaders and principal investigators. The individual will also have opportunities to develop mentorship skills through supervision of junior members of the team.

  1. Lead and participate in the development of robust analytic datasets for specific investigator outcomes and translational studies to execute the aims stated in the statistical analytic plans within the stated deadlines and in accordance with the data use agreements.
  2. Supervise the Senior Research Project Manager of Data Management and Analysis and oversee her team of data abstractors and data programmer/analysts in the execution of cohort generation and analytic plans to ensure the proper processes related to medical record abstraction, quality assurance, algorithm development, and data set creation for specific studies and the coordination and management of the overall database infrastructure to support all studies.
  3. Work closely with Director of Cohort and Translational Research, Principal Scientist of Translational Research, and Associate Director of Translational Research to ensure coordination with the Breast Oncology’s research activities.
  4. Provide training and mentoring of scientific methods related to study design and statistical analysis for the junior members of the team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will supervise Research Project Managers I, II, and Senior and Research Data Specialist I, II, and Senior Research Project Manager.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in biostatistics, outcomes research, epidemiology or related discipline.
  • Relevant real world data and/or observational research experience.
  • Enthusiastic team player, innovative and analytical thinker and self-motivated individual.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and management skills to prioritize multiple scientific projects and to supervise a group of interdisciplinary team members.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with all levels of lab members, staff and external collaborators.
