Sr. Project Engineer
Distributed Solar Development, New York, NY, United States
DSD's Senior Project Engineers are critical to the successful energization of our most complicated rooftop, canopy and ground mount PV, ESS and EVCI projects. Senior engineers own and manage the technical aspects of projects from development through asset operation, lead continuous improvement efforts of core engineering topics and provide mentorship to up-and-coming junior project engineers. They are core to the continued growth, development and success of DSD's Engineering Department.
DAY-TO-DAY WORK CONSISTS OF:
Design: complete ownership of the design process managing and coordinating 3rd party engineering disciplines to develop safe, reliable and value-engineered solutions. Manage electrical, structural and civil engineering for PV, ESS and EVCI projects. Support relay, DAS and SCADA design, testing and implementation. Review production modeling of system designs throughout project lifecycle using PVsyst. Performance testing of assets prior to handoff to Asset Management.
Interconnection: lead the technical component of the interconnection process as support to our Interconnection team to receive ISAs and PTOs as efficiently as possible. Perform initial site visits, develop IX designs, review impact studies, consult DSD's project teams on best paths forward, manage 3rd party engineering on the development of witness test plans and lead in-field witness tests with utility personnel in coordination with our Interconnection and Construction teams.
Procurement: support our Procurement team to ensure timely delivery of equipment to site. Includes: develop project-specific equipment specifications, review EPC submittals, vendor and contractor-supplied equipment shop drawings and approve of equipment to be manufactured and shipped to site.
Construction: work alongside the PM, CM, QAQC and CX teams to ensure successful completion and energization of projects. Manage drawings, submittals and RFIs via Procore. Provide timely responses and resolutions to construction-related issues to project stakeholders (customer, AHJ, utility, contractors) promoting forward progress of the construction process. Perform on-site inspections as needed to aid in resolution of issues and quality of the final product.
Continuous Improvement: lead efforts to continuously improve the Engineering Department's core skills, deliverables and partnerships within the industry. Lead or participate in non-project department work that is specific to engineering topics such as Code, CAD, MV & Grounding, Relay & Protection, 3rd Party Engineering and Design Standards. Continue the development of your own personal knowledge and skills through company-provided training.
Mentorship: perform reviews of junior engineer design deliverables and provide critical feedback for the continued development of the team's engineering skillsets.
