The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Universityof New Mexico is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) associate professor to bolsterits current areas of strength. Responsibilities will include teaching at boththe undergraduate and graduate levels, advising graduate students, andestablishing a strong externally funded research program.

As a minimum requirement, applicants must holdan earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or aclosely related field by the start date of the appointment. Outstandingcandidates having extensive demonstrated research experience andaccomplishments in biomechanics or biomedical engineering will be considered. Candidatesshould have demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the areas of biomechanicsand biomedical engineering. Candidates should also have demonstrated commitmentto diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success as well as working withbroadly diverse communities.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed toexcellence in both undergraduate and graduate education offering BS (ABETaccredited), MS and PhD degree programs. A team of 16 full-time faculty, and severalresearch and part-time faculty, support the activities of close to 500undergraduate students and more than 100 graduate students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or closely related field by the start date of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive demonstrated research experience and accomplishments in biomechanics or biomedical engineering
  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the areas of biomechanics and biomedical engineering
