Job Summary
Renders skilled technical services to residents within an assigned unit/ wing in support of medical care under the direction of the Administrator, Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing. Ensures a high quality of care is provided to all residents in his / her unit / wing. Supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel. Assesses the needs of residents and ensures services are consistent with needs.

Qualifications
- Has a current license by the State Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Must have the ability to lead and motivate subordinates
- Ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change, as work schedule will change on a daily basis
- Must be able to work intimately with residents, physicians and staff
- Capable of working to prescribe nursing standards
- Good interpersonal and communication skills: has an interest to perform a service
- Ability to plan, coordinate and supervise services
- Responsible for daily nursing operations of a specific unit / wing
- Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the residents, check each resident daily to determine status, ensures residents reach highest attainable level of functioning
- Prepares equipment and assists physician during their rounds
- Administers prescribed medications orally, by injection, topical and intravenous (ifN certified), provides treatments by using therapeutic equipment, ensure proper handling and storage of medications and controlled substances
- Observes resident's reactions to medication and treatment
- Observes, records and report changes in resident's condition to supervisor and attending physician
- Maintains resident's medical record by way of documentation, as required by policy
- Assists in planning, supervising and instructing the State Registered Nursing Assistants (SRNA), assigns daily work assignments to ensure positive outcome for residents
- Implements and ensures policies are utilized
- Ensures that proper infection control techniques are utilized
- Assists in the Continuous Quality Improvement Program and ensures follow-up occurs
- Provides input for State Registered Nursing Assistants (SRNA) and Certified Medication Aides (CMA) performance evaluations
- Coaches, counsels and disciplines State Registered Nursing Assistants (SRNA) and Certified Medication Aides (CMA) as needed, ensure personnel policies are followed
- Recommends staffing, equipment and supplies needed to Director of Nursing
- Responsible for capturing charges for supplies issued to residents on that unit/ wing
- Participates in care planning process and ensures the nursing component is implemented. Writes one initial care plan when resident is admitted and fills out three part care plan section as needed
