PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of power products in a Design to Order environment, adhering to our IEM quality standards. This position will specialize in our entire catalog of low voltage switchboard and switchgear products. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and manage team project communication, schedules, and all aspects of the design cycle for moderately complex projects and customer orders.
- Design products to IEM internal engineering design standards and best practices within customer lead time and quality expectations.
- Create and update mechanical drawings for switchgear and switchboard products, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, IEC, ANSI, UL, NEMA).
- Mentor and train junior design team members to maintain technical aptitude within the team.
- Ensure cross-functional team collaboration with product development, aftermarket support, application engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing.
- Participate in design feasibility discussions with customers and application experts.
- Act as a change agent within the department and company by identifying and resolving root causes through problem-solving activities.
- Minimum of 3 years in a technical engineering role, preferably with experience in switchgear design or the utility/power industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
- Experience and familiarity with design tools such as FEA, GD&T, and DFM are preferred.
- Knowledge of IEEE/ANSI C37.20, UL891/1558 design guidelines, and NFPA70E is desirable.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Must have critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- BSME or equivalent and a minimum of 3+ years of experience in mechanical design.
