Job Description: The Licensed Practical Nursing Coordinator/Instructor is assigned to develop, organize, direct and deliver a comprehensive instructional program of study. The coordinator/instructor is also responsible for the facility, equipment, curriculum and safety. The coordinator/instructor is responsible for complying with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures for adult vocational programs.

Qualifications: Holds or qualifies for a Vocational Certificate or Permit*endorsed for practical nursing

Holds a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Holds a valid West Virginia RN License

*For the candidate who does not currently hold a Vocational License endorsed for practical nursing, the following qualifications must be met:

  • Holds a valid West Virginia Registered Nurse License
  • Has completed three years of professional wage-earning experience including a minimum of one-year of "patient-side" nursing care in a long term, intermediate or acute care clinical facility such as a nursing home. A maximum of two years of teaching, supervisory or administrative experience in nursing may count toward the three years. The most recent experience must have been within the past three years and must be beyond the training period as a nurse.


Length of Employment: 239 Days

Responsibilities: The Licensed Practical Nursing Coordinator/Instructor shall have the following responsibilities and duties:

  1. To implement, evaluate and improve the program of study developed by the state and county in the specialization to which the teacher is assigned.
  2. To foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  3. To utilize instructional management systems models that increase adult students' academic achievement.
  4. To monitor student progress toward mastery of the content standards and objectives.
  5. To communicate effectively within the educational community and with adult students on a regular basis.
  6. To meet professional responsibilities associated with the position.
  7. To develop, organize, direct and deliver a comprehensive adult program under the supervision of the administrator.
  8. To provide the administrator with input into the evaluation of program staff.
  9. To seek recommendations from the practical nursing advisory committee for establishing policies for the recruitment, selection, admission, progression, dismissal and counseling of adult students.
  10. To visit clinical sites regularly in order to evaluate adult students' experiences and maintain communications with facility administration and staff.
  11. To assist administration with development of the program's annual budget.
  12. To arrange activities for selecting adult students including testing and interviewing.
  13. To implement activities required under the State Department of Education's Technical and Adult Education Services Policies and Procedures Manual and Public Law 94-482.
  14. To provide a safe learning environment for adult students
  15. To maintain equipment in safe, operational order.
  16. To sponsor vocational club appropriate to the specialization.
  17. To assist in placement and co-operative job training of adult students.
  18. To conduct follow-up surveys with program graduates.
  19. To promote or assist in promoting the program by dissemination of information and recruitment activities.
  20. To complete and submit all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education and/or county Board of Education.
  21. To report the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff.
  22. To identify and refer for screening and evaluation any adult student who has learning deficiencies.
  23. To advise the principal of the presence of any situation that may require immediate intervention so as not to hinder the instructional program.
  24. To complete duty assignments as designated by the principal.
  25. To communicate to the adult students their progress and deficiencies.
  26. To accept responsibility for adult students in the program.
  27. To supervise adult students at all times in accordance with state, county and school policies.
  28. To attend all faculty senate and other required meetings.
  29. To fulfill annual continuing education requirements and attend other required training programs.
  30. To take student attendance as legally required and in accordance with county policy.
  31. To accept reasonable extra duty assignments necessary for a successful adult program.
  32. To maintain professional work habits.
  33. To maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  34. To perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
