MicroAire Surgical Instruments, a mid-sized medical device company in Charlottesville Virginia, is seeking a Senior Buyer/Planner. About the Job:
The Senior Buyer/Planner is responsible for assisting the Director of Supply Chain in the development and deployment of supply chain strategies aimed at optimizing quality, cost, and delivery results at MicroAire Surgical Instruments through leadership, analysis, and execution of sourcing / order fulfillment activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Independently evaluates all aspects of the supply chain and takes initiative to partner with suppliers and other internal team members in a collaborative manner to develop and implement solutions that deliver desired results. Develops, manages, and assesses relationships with members of other departments and participates on cross- or multi-functional teams, recommending and implementing changes to improve purchasing policies and practices, and distribution of information as appropriate. Helps assess the training and development needs of the Supply Chain team and provides guidance and development for less senior Buyer/Planners. Monitors organizational performance continuously and facilitates efforts to improve KPI results. Represents the Supply Chain Director in his absence. Adheres to company policies, Legal practices, CGMP, and ISO requirements. Planning/Purchasing:
Develops and executes overall purchasing plan to successfully meet the organization's goals for quality, service, inventory, and cost by monitoring and analyzing both Kanban signals and MRP signals. Monitors supplier quality and delivery performance and takes initiative to improve performance. Maintains materials planning data in DataWorks system and adjusts MRP and Kanban system parameters to achieve desired results. Interfaces with New Product Development teams and provides guidance and feedback on issues impacting Supply Chain design and operational results. Procures services and supplies for non-production company needs. Global Sourcing:
Professionally and ethically conducts negotiations with current and/or potential suppliers to obtain maximum value; this includes the development of strategies and tactics for effective negotiation. Establishes mid-to-long-range contracts with key suppliers geared toward outlining operating agreements, mitigating risks, and optimizing costs and inventory. Locates, qualifies, and manages suppliers to ensure continuous supply of materials to meet production / product development requirements. Performs "make vs buy" analyses and executes efforts to implement approved action plans. Pursues cost improvement opportunities to achieve best value for the company while ensuring adherence to product specifications. Continuous Improvement:
Evaluates all aspects of the supply chain and uses A3 problem-solving methodologies to develop solutions that deliver desired results relative to quality, cost and delivery. Develops and implements projects and programs to standardize efforts; improve processes; and reduce, avoid, or contain costs. Performs other duties and activities as assigned. Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in appropriate field or equivalent work experience required. Certified Project Management certification preferred. Seven (7) years of supply chain experience with progressive supervisory responsibility required. Exposure to medical device industry and APICS certifications preferred.

Understands the quality requirements of operating in an organization governed by the Food & Drug Administration. Understands concepts associated with "make or buy" decisions for products or services and acts to implement these types of decisions. Understands and develops purchasing strategies that include leveraging win-win relationships with suppliers. Contracts & Negotiations:
Partners with internal team members to create effective, long-term contractual agreements with suppliers. Understands how to prepare for and develop strategies and tactics for negotiations. Conducts negotiations with potential and/or current suppliers to obtain maximum value. Negotiates applicable terms and conditions of purchases, contracts, and other aspects of relationship with suppliers. Issue Management:
Participates in the Material Review Board and Supplier Corrective Action Processes to improve supplier quality performance. Develops measurements for quality improvement and target setting. Utilizes six-sigma concepts and tools effectively to solve problems and enhance processes. Internal Relationships:
Recommends/implements changes in the purchasing, supply management, and material usage policies. Disseminates information effectively and trains individuals on policies and procedures. Mentors, develops, coaches, and leads buy / planners and associate buyer / planners. External Relationships:
Develops and manages effective relationships with suppliers through the use of supplier partnerships, strategic alliances, supply chain management, and supplier training programs. Reviews product availability and pricing information with suppliers. Conducts interviews with sales people from current and prospective suppliers. Coordinates, reviews, and responds to supplier inquires, protests, and appeals. Develops and implements initiatives and activities to support MicroAire's goals in supplier diversity. Process Improvement:
Leverages technology to facilitate the efficient and effective use of supply chain resources. Understands concepts of standardization and process improvement for the sourcing function Develops and implements cost reduction, cost avoidance, and cost containment programs. Coordinates the introduction of new and modified products and services as part of improvements or NPD. Benefits:
