Job Description:
GDIT is seeking a Cloud Storage Engineer to support the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID). In this role, you will be part of a team of system administrators / engineers responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and supporting the physical and cloud infrastructure of the institute’s data centers.
You will work closely with internal operational teams to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of virtual and physical environments. This role is crucial in our efforts to build a resilient, cloud-based Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy. The successful candidate will bring expertise in designing, deploying, and managing storage solutions that align with NIAID’s business continuity and data protection requirements.
Work Visa sponsorship will not be provided for this role.
How a Cloud Storage Engineer Will Make an Impact:
Design and deploy AWS-based storage solutions leveraging FSx for NetApp ONTAP, Amazon EBS, S3, and other AWS services to support scalable and secure data management
Lead the integration of on-premises NetApp systems with AWS FSxN, optimizing data transfer and synchronization
Create and implement cloud DR strategies using AWS and NetApp technologies to enable robust data protection, rapid failover, and seamless recovery in the event of disruptions
Analyze, monitor, and optimize storage costs in the cloud, ensuring efficient data use and recommending optimizations
Develop automation scripts to manage storage capacity, implement best practices for cost-effective data storage, and ensure proper data lifecycle management
Implement security policies and data protection mechanisms, such as encryption, backup, and access control, to ensure data integrity and compliance with industry standards
Conduct regular audits and assessments of storage solutions to align with regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Education: Technical Training, Certification(s) or Degree
Required Experience: Minimum of five years of related experience
Required Technical Skills:
Minimum of five years of experience in AWS storage solutions, particularly with NetApp ONTAP and Amazon FSx for NetApp (FSxN)
Experience in designing, deploying, and managing disaster recovery (DR) strategies within AWS
Hands-on experience with key AWS services, including S3, EC2, VPC, and Lambda, for automation and infrastructure management
Strong knowledge of data replication, synchronization, and backup/restore processes across hybrid cloud environments
Security Clearance Level: Must be able to obtain a NIH public trust
Required Skills and Abilities:
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex requirements and deliver effective solutions
Ability to effectively communicate
Must have excellent documentation skills and be able to effectively share insights and develop standard operating procedures
Preferred Skills:
AWS Solutions Architect certification
AWS Advanced Networking certification
Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, security, and application teams, to ensure storage architecture meets project requirements and organizational standards
Provide guidance and training to internal teams on storage best practices, backup, recovery, and DR procedures
Hands-on experience with key AWS services, including S3, EC2, VPC, and Lambda, for automation and infrastructure management
Strong knowledge of data replication, synchronization, and backup/restore processes across hybrid cloud environments

The likely salary range for this position is $114,750 - $155,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
