Software Engineering Manager II, Google Ads

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  2. 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  3. 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing strategic projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  2. 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  3. Experience working with advertising platforms.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, oversee a large product budget, and deploy large-scale projects internationally. You will guide your team in optimizing code and achieving project goals while contributing to product strategy.

Google Ads powers the open internet with technology that connects people, publishers, and advertisers. Our teams build Google’s Advertising products, creating trusted experiences with useful ads that help businesses grow.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Salary is determined by role, level, and location. Your recruiter can provide specific salary details during the hiring process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.
  2. Set clear expectations with team members and meet regularly to discuss performance and development.
  3. Develop the mid-term technical vision and roadmap for your team(s).
  4. Design, guide, and vet systems designs, writing product or system development code where necessary.
  5. Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
