UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings) was founded in 1878 as the law department of the University of California and was the first law school in California. Over the years, it has built a legacy and reputation of being a preeminent institution comprised of renowned faculty committed to the study of legal theory and research, preparing students for careers in the judicial system, public service, and industry.
The College is redefining legal education through an experiential, interdisciplinary, and international approach to the law. By integrating rigorous academics with hands-on practice, the College is preparing its graduates to tackle modern legal challenges.
THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
It is an inspiring and meaningful time to join the UC Law San Francisco Advancement Team. As we undertake the largest fundraising campaign in the College’s history, we seek a Senior Director of Philanthropy to raise critical funds from alumni and friends of the College to enhance UC Law SF’s ability to impact the legal profession, expand opportunities for students, and fuel innovation through cutting-edge research and programs.
Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Senior Director of Philanthropy serves as a key strategic fundraising leader on the Advancement team.
The Senior Director of Philanthropy will:
- Manage a portfolio of 125-150 current, lapsed and prospective major and principal gift donors, focusing on donors with the capacity to make six, seven and eight figure gifts.
- Serve as key strategic partner to Chief Advancement Officer and Chancellor & Dean to advance fundraising strategies, maximize current philanthropic opportunities, and identify and pursue new fundraising strategies to meet and exceed revenue goals.
- Partner and collaborate with members of the Advancement team, College leadership and faculty to remain current on and share key College initiatives and updates with donors, advancing solicitation and stewardship strategies.
- Leverage communications, events and meetings to develop and strengthen relationships between current and potential donors and the College.
- Supervise the Planned Giving Officer who manages UC Law SF’s planned giving program, supporting strategic alignment between current fundraising and planned giving efforts.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, with preference for candidates who have advanced degrees.
- 5+ years of progressive and successful development experience in relationship-based major gifts, preferably in higher education.
- 3+ years of management experience.
- Proven success in securing major gifts and increasing donor support and engagement.
- Commitment to UC Law San Francisco’s vision to prepare its graduates to tackle modern legal challenges.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Stellar relationship building skills and ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to travel locally, nationally and internationally.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
