This position offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic clinical research team studying ways to improve the lives of children with chronic disease. The research assistant will provide various support functions to our clinical research program, with a primary focus on data support for a national, multi-center registry project for children with bone health disorders. Responsibilities Essential Functions Compiles data from medical records and transcribes data from the EMR into research-specific data banks. Maintains up to date files and records of research data. Drafts correspondence to answer inquiries and responds to requests from collaborating organizations about specific projects as requested. Maintains an internal library on project information resources and data collected. Performs quality control through standardized department-specific processes in order to ensure accurate data transcription and resolve all discrepancies. Schedule study appointments, visits and meetings. Assists research team in preparing and shipping samples on a weekly or as-needed basis. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual. Minimum Qualifications One year research experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated organizational and communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. An understanding of research protocols and procedures preferred. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences Department Preferences Previous experience working with EMR would be helpful, but not required. A basic understanding of research, great attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot/problem solve is preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software programs.
