Reporting to the Global Head Medical Affairs Oncology, the
VP, OBU Medical Affairs, Lung
has full responsibility for establishing, implementing and delivering a world class, best in industry long range Global Medical tumor strategy for the Oncology business, bringing maximum benefits to clinical community and patients. You will lead a team of medical experts to deliver the 3-5 year medical strategy and subsequent strategies/plans to evolve and develop strategic opportunities driven by building and understanding evidence gaps and opportunities to bring value to the clinical ecosystem, maximizing asset lifecycle and synergizing across the organization with the overall development and delivery of the tumor strategy. As a member of the Oncology Global Medical Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal leadership role in the shared accountability for the Oncology Global Medical strategy, the attraction, development and the retention of Medical talent and the representation of Medical internally and externally as a world class, Industry leading Medical Organization. Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Oncology Medical Tumor strategy and be the Global Medical Lead of the Cross Functional Tumor Strategy, collaborating and partnering with R&D and Commercial Leaders. Be a member of the Global Core Medical Leadership Team (CMLT) and be the accountable medical lead on the Tumor Council. Identify and strive for innovation in the medical strategy and approach to provide health care solutions to clinicians, patients and payers. Accountable to Senior SET/SET-1 and external stakeholder management and communication strategies and plans. As Tumor lead, ensure cross asset prioritization and alignment for your tumor area, while working with other Medical Tumor VP’s on long term and immediate prioritization activities including demand planning to ensure the enterprise oncology medical delivery plan is achieved and sustainable. Accountable for the development and implementation of GMA evidence and confidence building strategies in the Tumor Area, ensuring effective collaboration with other key functions within GMA (Medical Excellence, Evidence Generation, Patient Centricity, Strategy and Planning) and regional/marketing company (MC) Medical Affairs (MA). Accountable for the evidence generation strategy for all non-indication seeking (in primary intent) evidence generation, including interventional and non-interventional studies whether internally or externally sponsored. Ensure Medical teams form and lead effective and collaborative GTTs (Global Tumor Teams), incorporating Marketing Company Medical and Commercial representatives, for each priority product and across tumors. Ensure high-performing Global Medical Teams (GMTs) contribute medical insight and expertise to the Global Product Teams (GPT) and product life cycle management. Ensure that each GMT delivers a collaboratively generated, integrated Global Medical Plan including a 3 year planning horizon and high level 10 year outlook that ladders to overarching brand strategy. Ensure that Global Medical Plan strategies are implemented at a global level and Global Medical Team provide global expertise for in market Medical teams. Accountable for development of overarching medical affairs external scientific partnership, key opinion leaders, key external experts strategies, congress and symposia strategies to demonstrate and build sustainable scientific leadership in the respective tumor area. Contribute data, insights, and medical opinion decision making to investor calls and business development and investment decisions. Accountable for budget and resource planning, including prioritization of internal and external study expenditure to ensure return on investment for the business and impact for the patient. Ensure that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures and external regulations. Attract, develop and retain a diverse pipeline of medical talents through effective talent management, recruitment and succession planning. Provide leadership and coaching to teams and individuals to upskill and develop future capabilities. Create an environment of inclusion and belonging in the workplace by fostering a culture of inclusive leadership, innovation, ‘speak up’ and lifelong learning. Advanced Scientific Degree. 5 years of pharmaceutical/biotechnology/medical device or health care delivery industry experience. Strong connections to the delivery of healthcare in the assigned TA including established relationships with relevant therapeutic area experts. Understanding of the complex and evolving Medical Affairs space with insights about trends, opportunities, risks, and an understanding of external stakeholders (physicians, patients, payers). Experience in establishing strategic alliances and partnerships with health care institutions/Key opinion leaders and/or academic institutions. Desirable Skills/Experience:
MD (Strongly Preferred). Clinical experience in disease management. Highly desired: Oncology specialist qualification. In-market / country medical leadership is advantageous. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
