What You Will Do: The Graduate Career Advisor is responsible for working proactively with NLU Master's and Doctoral level students in providing robust support in all areas of career development aimed at empowering graduate students in achieving career success. This key role involves strategic planning and execution of comprehensive career development initiatives, including refining portfolio materials, offering specialized industry guidance, and facilitating job search strategies to enhance employment opportunities. This position will provide supports to graduate students including career guidance, resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, job search strategies, personal branding, salary negotiation guidance, and career transition support. This role also involves creating visibility for Career Bridge, organizing professional development and networking opportunities for graduate students through various events, workshops, webinars, career fairs, and employer spotlights. This position will network with employers, faculty, staff, students and alumni to promote Career Bridge programs. Collaborating with faculty to enhance career-focused courses across graduate programs is crucial for maintaining consistency, relevance, and alignment with industry standards. This role will be focused on, but not limited to, supporting students currently enrolled in the National College of Education at NLU.

Essential Responsibilities

Advises students on internship/job search strategies, educational and personal goals.

Develops and implements outreach strategy to promote career development activities among high needs student populations through regular class visits and planned programs. Collaborates with Employer Relations Manager in nurturing employer relationships and connecting students to job opportunities. Works closely with faculty and academic staff to collaborate on meeting student career development needs. Assists in all aspects of Career Bridge events, including job fairs, tailored student programming aligned with specific industries, and networking events. Attends networking functions as appropriate to develop industry and alumni connections while promoting university and college objectives. Maintains database of student engagement and employment outcomes.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field. 1-3 years of experience in Career Services or Advising experience at the Higher Ed level. 1-3 years of Direct Industry experience in the Education field Elementary, Secondary and/or Higher Education). 3-5 years of proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint. 1-3 years demonstrated in-depth experience using LinkedIn and other professional social networking sites. 1-3 years of experience creating, planning and implementing student-focused events and programming. 1-3 years demonstrated knowledge of relationship management databases, such as Handshake, eRecruiting or Sonia.
