WEX is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, supporting Mobility and Payments to join their legal team. This role will be responsible for supporting WEX's Mobility & Payments lines of business on complex commercial transactions and product development and launches in the Americas. This role will provide strategic and tactical advice to WEX's commercial, digital, and marketing teams, while working collaboratively across the business and with external advisors.
How you'll make an impact
Provide day-to-day support for legal matters concerning WEX’s Mobility & Payments activities and operations in the Americas, including supporting RFP responses, marketing reviews, M&A due diligence and business integration, complex commercial transactions with customers, partners and merchants, as well as product development and launches.
Negotiate, review and draft a variety of commercial transactions including customer credit agreements, card program agreements, various financial instruments, and supplier, marketing, referral, technology and goods and services agreements and related documentation, while facilitating necessary input from key stakeholders.
Provide solution-oriented legal advice and support throughout the product life cycle - from initial development to launch and commercialization, and through technology/product evolution, including drafting and reviewing product terms (e.g., new features, app and API terms of use, website terms of service, integration terms and conditions).
Identify, manage and escalate as necessary any legal issues and risks to the company.
Build and maintain processes consistent with best practices pertaining to commercial contracting, template creation, and negotiation playbooks.
Be actively involved with the operations, commercial organizations and other internal stakeholders to develop and update customer agreements and other commercial contracts.
Collaborate with colleagues in other areas of the legal department to identify and provide comprehensive legal guidance.
Ensure agreements adhere to corporate policies and standards.
Provide commercially focused advice and recommendations to internal stakeholders regarding contractual terms, and support pre-litigation disputes raised by customers or commercial partners.
Raising and exploring opportunities to improve process efficiency within the legal team.
Be responsible for engaging and managing outside counsel and overseeing their work product.
Experience you'll bring
Juris Doctor degree and active State Bar membership required
7+ years of legal experience, or equivalent relevant experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience or military experience.
Experience in payments and/or financial services industries and laws relevant thereto, ideally in an in-house environment.
Understanding of the legal and practical components of a product life cycle
Significant commercial drafting, reviewing and negotiating experience, including in the public sector or technology agreements
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Excellence in resourceful problem solving, detailed analysis, and issue resolution
Excellent ability to understand complex commercial and technical issues and business metrics
Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills
Collaborative and can work as part of a team, while also able to be an independent self-starter
Proactive in pursuit of continuous improvement, learning new skills, and addressing clients’ business needs with practical solutions
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in using Google Suite and contract lifecycle management system(s); ability to ramp up quickly on other applications and systems, including matter management systems.
