General Summary: The Accounting Manager will provide leadership and support to our Finance and Accounting department. This position will oversee a team that assists in accounting reconciliations, cash management, sales tax preparations, fixed assets, and produces monthly financial statements for Rocky’s Ace Hardware. The Accounting Manager serves as a key resource for the company Controller and Chief Financial Officer.
What You'll Do:
• Accounting Excellence: Take charge of a variety of accounting tasks, including managing accounts payable for multiple stores, assisting with accounts receivable and treasury functions, and participating in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures.
• Data Analytics Expertise: Dive into the world of data analytics by maintaining store-specific data and contributing to analytics packages. You'll learn to create and manage data files and dashboards while honing your skills in financial modeling for potential store expansion and acquisitions.
• Operational Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues from operations and merchandising on various projects. Your analytical insights and effective communication will be vital in driving impactful decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure that monthly close process is performed timely and accurately ensuring all close objectives are achieved.
• Review and approve journal entries, monthly account reconciliations variance analysis, and financial statements.
• Manage the maintenance and accuracy of ledger accounts and financials in compliance with company and US GAAP standards.
• Oversee completion of sales tax returns and sales tax audits.
• Manage balance sheet to ensure all accounts are analyzed and timely reconciliations are completed.
• Assist in overseeing the preparation of the tax package and both internal and external audits.
• Identify opportunities for improvements in the accounting department processes including but not limited to, monthly close process, cost saving initiatives, and documentation of policies and procedures.
• Emphasize and implement proper accounting controls as needed.
• Document and communicate existing processes where documentation does not exist.
• Continuously assess business and departmental processes, and make changes to improve efficiency and productivity
• Support the Controller and Chief Financial Officer on various initiatives as needed.
• Implement new software or other accounting solutions as needed.
• Provide leadership to the Accounting and Finance team, working with each member on their individual development, goals, and on-the-job training.
• Assign projects to the team and manage the work timelines and schedules to ensure daily, weekly, monthly, and special projects meet deadlines.
• Regularly provide feedback to staff and complete evaluations on an annual basis.
• Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing existing procedures and recommending changes. Reviews and updates business process narratives as necessary.
• Implements system checks/variants to help identify and correct errors before the general ledger is closed.
• Provide leadership to the accounting team and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed on an accurate and timely basis.
• Ensure departmental goals and objectives are aligned with company strategies and priorities.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
• Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, setting the foundation for your financial expertise.
• Proven Experience: With 5-7+ years of accounting experience, including 2 years of public accounting audit experience.
• Detail-Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail is essential in ensuring accurate financial reporting. A strong mathematical aptitude is also required.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Your ability to use good judgment and tackle complex challenges head-on will make you an invaluable asset to our team.
• Tech Savvy: Proficiency with MS Excel including pivot tables, index/match functions, and data validation. Experience with General Ledger/ERP systems further enhances your capabilities
• Must be a self-starter with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
