Summary:

The CVRU Registered Nurse demonstrates excellent customer service performance and supports a work environment in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare.

The CVRU RN works under the supervision of the Manager and Coordinator. This individual is responsible and accountable for assisting the patient to move as rapidly, uneventfully, safely, and effectively as possible through hospitalization. The CVRU RN delegates, supervises, and implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilization of and adherence to standards which define the process. The CVRU RN performs other duties as assigned.

Always demonstrates extraordinary customer service with actions consistent with the Code of Conduct.

Clinical contact with patients in the adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Ability to appropriately assess, care for and treat patients according to the age-appropriate care guidelines as defined by Covenant Healthcare.

Communicates with patients and families in a professional, therapeutic, and courteous manner.

Collaborates effectively with all health care disciplines to facilitate patient outcomes, assess readiness for discharge and anticipate discharge needs.

Identifies patient learning needs and their ability to follow through, including discharge instructions, while implementing appropriate measures to meet these needs.

Exhibits nursing judgement and critical thinking abilities within the framework of the nursing process.

Administers medications as outlined by Patient Service guidelines and policies.

Documents all patient care observations and interventions in the electronic record accurately, clearly, in a timely manner following all established policies.

Actively participates in quality management.

Updates and maintains knowledge, skills and competencies related to area of practice and ages of patient population.

Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality, and actively supports risk management activities.

Participates in patient care and unit activities to achieve compliance with all regulatory, patient safety, infection control, and safety requirements.

Participates in unit meetings and activities which support unit function and the overall goals of the organization.

Maintains glucose, ACT and NIH Stroke Scale certifications.

Adheres to unit/department policies, procedures, and unit structure standards.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

Education/ Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current Michigan licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS and ACLS Provider certification. Critical care experience preferred. Three (3) years of nursing experience. Current experience with pre and post cardiac catheterization patients preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac catheterization labor special procedures.

Basic computer skills.

Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and co-workers.

Demonstrates the ability to remain calm during high work volume and crisis situations.

Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve and prioritize unit needs independently, efficiently, and effectively.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Constant walking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, field of vision.

Constant lifting to10lbs.

Frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, twisting, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, talking. Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.

Occasionally sitting, carrying, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, tasting/smelling. Occasionally lifting 100 lbs. or more.

Not present reclining.
