PRIMARY FUNCTION
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager with a strong manufacturing background to join our growing finance team and oversee the accounting operations that support our fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in overseeing the accounting operations related to month-end close, journal entry review, cost accounting, inventory management, financial reporting, and annual audits within our manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in accounting within a manufacturing company, particularly in areas such as inventory control, cost of goods sold (COGS), and manufacturing overhead, along with a deep understanding of US GAAP. The successful candidate will also have a CPA and prior experience at a large international audit firm or leading global accounting firm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Month-End Close & Journal Entries:
- Lead the month-end close process within a manufacturing environment, ensuring that all transactions related to production, inventory, and fixed assets are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and approve journal entries, with a focus on manufacturing-related costs, including raw materials, labor, overhead, and inventory adjustments.
- Perform variance analysis on production costs, cost of goods sold (COGS), and overhead, investigating discrepancies and proposing corrective actions.
- Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
- Oversee cost accounting functions, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of product costs, including direct materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
- Manage inventory accounting processes, including periodic physical inventory counts, inventory reconciliations, and cost adjustments.
- Ensure accurate valuation of inventory in accordance with GAAP, including proper allocation of fixed manufacturing costs and labor.
- Work closely with production and supply chain teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
- Manufacturing Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, with a focus on manufacturing-related costs, profitability, and production performance.
- Provide detailed financial analysis and reporting of production costs, gross margins, and manufacturing efficiency to support strategic decision-making.
- Assist management with budgeting and forecasting of production costs, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Technical Accounting & Compliance:
- Provide expertise on technical accounting issues related to manufacturing operations, including the treatment of capitalized production costs, cost of inventory, and product warranty reserves.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, particularly with respect to inventory valuation (ASC 330), cost of sales, and manufacturing-related expenses.
- Stay current on changes to accounting standards, including ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and ASC 842 (Leases), ensuring that manufacturing processes are in compliance.
- Annual Audit Support:
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the annual audit, working closely with external auditors to provide documentation and address inquiries related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and capital expenditures.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and internal accounting policies related to manufacturing functions.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance on accounting issues related to manufacturing costs, inventory management, and financial reporting.
- Develop and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations within the manufacturing environment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Foster a collaborative environment across finance, operations, and production teams to ensure alignment on financial reporting and cost management goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education & Certification:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration is a plus.
- Preferred Experience:
- At least 4-6 years of relevant experience in accounting, with a strong focus on manufacturing environments (e.g., production cost accounting, inventory management, COGS).
- Previous experience in accounting roles within a manufacturing company, with hands-on experience in cost accounting, inventory control, and financial reporting related to production processes.
- Experience working at a large international audit firm or leading global accounting firm (e.g., one of the Big 4 or a similarly respected firm) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, particularly in areas such as inventory accounting (ASC 330), cost of goods sold (COGS), and manufacturing overhead.
- Experience in managing or coordinating manufacturing audits and controls compliance requirements is a plus.
COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, particularly those used in manufacturing environments (e.g., NetSuite, Sage-Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, etc).
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial reporting in a manufacturing setting.
- Ability to analyze production costs, identify inefficiencies, and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders, including operations, production, sales, and executive teams.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex data and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
