Chief Purpose of this position

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at (VCU) seeks a fellowship-trained Head and Neck Surgeon to join our growing academic practice who perform all aspects of ablative, robotic, and reconstructive surgery with tremendous opportunities for growth in all arms of the academic mission.

We are looking for a candidate with a demonstrated experience in head & neck oncologic surgery that has a track record of professional development and academic scholarship.

Resources and opportunities include:

  • Multidisciplinary management of head & neck malignancies
  • Multidisciplinary head & neck tumor boards
  • This program is affiliated with the part of Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center at VCU, one of only two NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Virginia. Opportunities exist for inter-departmental collaboration and mentorship across the Oncology Service line

Position Responsibilities

Teaching - Faculty member will participate in the teaching of residents, medical students and other students & observers. Provide CME lectures for professionals. 

Research - Faculty member shall establish a reputation of excellence in clinical and/or translational research, with the expectation of publication in refereed journals and potential external funding. The development of interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the research and clinical programs at VCU is expected. Mentoring of residents and students in their research. 

Service - Faculty member will serve on departmental, Health System and/or University committees as needed. Service in a professional capacity in their field in such areas of reviewer, external committee member, conference organizer, etc. are encouraged. 

Clinical - This is the area of primary focus as a clinical faculty MD. Faculty member will demonstrate excellence in provision of care and treatment of patients within the discipline. Faculty member will demonstrate responsibility toward growth of individual clinical practice and referral base. Faculty will participate in multi-disciplinary clinical endeavors. 

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) - Dependent on faculty rank and prior experience of selected candidate

Required Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Eligible in Otolaryngology
  • Fellowship trained in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia upon hire
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at Virginia commonwealth university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interest in teaching and research
