The University of Virginia seeks a caring, creative, and collaborative professional to serve as a graphic designer for Enrollment and its four constituent offices:Student Financial Services, the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, and the Virginia College Advising Corps. This position, reporting to the Director of Enrollment Communications, will work with communicators and colleagues to help develop and support a communications and marketing strategy that: Strengthens the excellence, diversity, success, and sense of community of the student body;

Increases the number of low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented high-school students across Virginia who enter and complete higher education; and

Advances the mission of the University.

This position will be involved throughout the creative process - from concept development to final visual execution - to create effective, strategic, and beautiful communications efforts across multiple channels, including digital, print, and social media. This role offers opportunities for professional development in a highly collaborative environment. Core responsibilities will include: Working as a member of the University Enrollment team to generate compelling marketing and communications efforts, with key responsibility for the visual design.

Collaborating with creative professionals including photographers, videographers, and printers to provide art direction and assist in the creation of projects and campaigns.

Utilizing design techniques; tools and principles; and advanced layout and typography to articulate the promise of the University to current and prospective students in fresh, effective, and accessible ways.

Honoring the University's graphic standards, techniques, methods, and style guides in the design process.

Participating in creative briefings, project meetings, design review, and content planning meetings.

Working with the Director of Enrollment Communications to ensure production tracking of day-to-day work and on-time project delivery.

Vetting and coordinating with appropriate vendors engaged to produce creative work on behalf of the Enrollment Unit.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Passionate about understanding current and emerging design and digital trends, with experience executing marketing concepts across multiple platforms.

Collaborative, deadline-driven, willing to take creative direction, and able to manage successfully several projects at once.

A creative, conceptual thinker with advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles including graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

Experience in the creation of marketing materials that are part of an established brand identity, articulate creative strategies, and maintain high visual standards.

Demonstrated understanding of page layout, typography, color theory and choice/application of assets such as photography, illustration, and other digital graphics.

Familiarity with the creative process including the development and ownership of a project from concept through final production and knowledge of pre-press and printing processes.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Multimedia capabilities such as experience designing within a Content Management System (such as Drupal), and responsive web and mobile platforms.

Experience in simple animation using Adobe After Effects.

User experience/interface design.

Experience with brand development, strongly branded organizations and/or higher education.

Experience working with students to develop and execute creative content.

Required Experience Candidates must have a bachelor's degree with 4 or more years of relevant professional experience in graphic and conceptual design for print, digital, and mobile.

Experience in the creation of digital and print marketing materials that are in keeping with an established brand identity, as well as the ability to articulate creative strategies and maintain high visual standards.
