Responsibilities of a UAS Pilot

Deploy OCONUS for 3-12 months, rotating with team members. Primary AOR is CENTCOM. Perform all functional duties independently. Work and live in a small team austere environment. Define and execute UAS-based scenarios in test and/or training events. Understand and interpret customer requirements to ensure correct use of UAS technology at technical exchange and/or test events. Interact with both civilian organizations and military units. Tasks

Pilot in Command. Mission planning. UAS launch & recovery. Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks. Perform UAS maintenance. Maintain UAS logbooks. Manage radio network to support UAS operations (Silvus, TrellisWare, etc.). Assist with site assessments and inform teams about possible use of UAS. Coordinate with national and international intelligence agencies. Develop data sharing capability, trend analysis, and procedures. Plan, coordinate, and act as safety officer for flight operations. Provide comprehensive technical post-flight analysis and log file analysis. Requirements

Experience with ArduPilot and Mission Planner using Fixed Wing Aircraft. Experience with hobbyist fixed wing RC and/or other UAS experience. Ability to operate IFR, read and interpret sectional charts, airspace hazards, topography, airport data, and operate in controlled airspace. Ability to communicate with ATC operations and air-to-air coordination with other aircraft and airspace management agencies. Qualifications

FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certified, or able to obtain certification. Amateur Radio Technician Licensed, or able to obtain certification. Beneficial

Manned pilot experience is desirable. Experience with Group 2 / Group 3 UAS fixed wing platforms. Experience with the ISR mission set and associated systems and FMV payload operation. Knowledge of the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP). Knowledge of a wide array of UAS components & UAS flight control software. Ability to research emerging UAS technologies, describe their advantages, and the impact to DoD capabilities. Ability to take technical UAS knowledge and inform/instruct others about the technology, capabilities & limitations, and impacts to DoD capabilities. Experience in pre-deployment training and knowledge exchange supporting field training exercises (FTX), Validation Exercises (VALEX), and other technical exchange events. BA/BS with 0-3 years of experience; or AA/AS and 4 years of experience; or HS/GED and 6 years of experience. Active secret security clearance or ability to obtain a secret security clearance. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and intelligence-related automation to support analytical efforts.
