Job Overview:
Reporting to, and at the general direction of the General Manager, plans and manages grounds and landscape maintenance for the Hotel and Casino, including loading dock, all walks and paths, parking garage and lots, access roads, patios, porches, outdoor dining landscapes, exterior swimming pools, exterior decorative water features and fountains—all satisfying the Purpose.

Duties and Responsibilities:

workplace
safety throughout the department. Directs the Grounds organization, with executive and administrative direction and control, to maintain reliability, functionality, and efficiency of built environment and all landscape assets, supplies, materials, and personnel. Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all grounds-oriented construction and special projects performed with in-house forces. Consults and makes recommendations for the Tribal Government’s Grounds department. Performs first-level stewardship of unit's budget. Hires, manages, evaluates and initiates base pay changes; disciplines Supervisors and front-line Technicians, with collaboration with HR officials. Ensures accurate accountability of payroll and attendance records and leave permissions and records through automated systems; enforces fairly all workforce policies and practices defining the employer-employee relationship, with guidance from HR officials. Produces and maintains operational focus of department on quarterly objectives, as defined by the General Manager. Responsible for all pesticide record keeping and related duties, including implementing a departmental safety plan. Other duties & responsibilities as assigned. required Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field
AND
three (3) years’ experience in a Management position–
required
OR
Seven (7) years’ experience in a Management position–
required OR
Five (5) years’ experience in a Management position with Wind Creek Hospitality–
required
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Horticulture from an accredited university. Must have Ten (10) years of experience as a Manager or above running a Grounds Department –
required Has successfully cared for a casino resort property as a Manager level or above for at least Five (5) years. In this context, cared for means that candidate has had direct responsibilities and demonstrated success with maintaining commercial landscaping–
required Record of successful supervision of front-line Technicians for at least Seven (7) years. Successful means that candidate establishes a verifiable record of progressive increases in responsibility from tasking duties as a “Foreman—Supervisor”, up to “General Supervision,” including administration, participation in hiring and disciplinary actions, recommendations for pay changes, recommendations to Management for process or organizational changes–
required Must hold any Four (4) of the following certifications -required
Alabama Certified Landscape Professional (ALCLP) Landscape Design State Certification (LD) Alabama Setting of Landscape Plants (SLP) Ornamental Turf Pest Control Certification (OTPC) Professional Drainage Contractor (NDS) Right of Way Spray Applicator (ROW)
Must have experience above at a commercial entertainment venue, hotel or resort. Has won awards of distinction in competitive landscaping programs-
preferred Record of commitment to lifelong learning, personal growth, continuing education, adding value to capabilities-
preferred Record of success with increasing administrative responsibilities. Record of success in meeting objectives through directing the work of subordinates. Record of success with increasing responsibility, for outcomes in periods of multiple quarters up to a single fiscal year. Willing and able to work odd or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Willing to travel and participate in training as recommended or required. Must have a Tribal Gaming License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) as a requirement for this position. Must have willingness and ability to work in a smoke/secondary smoke environment. NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN PREFERENCE IN HIRING POLICY SHALL BE ADHERED TO AT ALL TIMES.
