Project Overview:
Senior User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) Designer is responsible for the user experience framework, finding areas of user experience enhancement and refining the system workflow as it relates to research data collection, management, and research subject management. Have experience with human subjects clinical oriented research and a deep understanding of user-centered design processes and interaction design principles are required as it pertains to research and clinical trials interfaces and clinician user experience.
Job Responsibilities: Provide primary and expert-level support to the CiSTAR and BRICS platform for the NINDS intramural IT program. Understand target system user needs, tasks, and goals, and translate them into creative concepts and functional components that aid with desired workflow (i.e., data collection, subject management, etc.). Identify, develop, and design solutions, and create documentation (site maps, transaction and workflows, sketches, scenarios, high fidelity wireframes, navigation models, system documentation and records) for existing and new system features. Lead and/or participate in immersive user research, concept testing, and usability testing. Work closely with CiSTAR program manager, dev ops team, testers, working groups and key stake holders to translate business requirements into meaningful interactive experiences. Develop information architecture and interaction design diagrams and documentation or new enhancements and existing system capabilities collaboratively. Develop prototypes or detailed wire frames for demonstration of concepts to key stake holders collaboratively. Develop and document detailed user experience specifications for highly interactive interfaces or other project requirements including existing systems components. Lead usability testing for prototypes and developed products. Participate in User Experience meetings and keeps up to date with industry best practices and innovations. Solve complex problems and user interface challenges and iterate on intricate solutions and ideas. Contribute to T&T proposal activities and all other duties as assigned by T&T managers. Minimum Requirements:
Have a bachelor's degree in nursing, Clinical Research, Information System Management, Library Science, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Technical Communications, or related fields. Have strong skills in a variety of design tools such as Axure, Figma, Balsamiq, InVision, Adobe XD, ProtoPie, Sketch, Marvel, or similar. Demonstrate ability to execute on complex transactional interfaces, taxonomies and metadata frameworks, and templates for content management systems used in research and clinical trials in a medical research environment. Demonstrate experience conducting user research or gathering of stakeholder requirements and translating user research into design decisions that translate into actionable software development products. Demonstrate experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions. Demonstrate ability to develop critical ideas and execute flawlessly against them in a highly collaborative environment. Have excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. Have excellent visual and interaction design skills and craft. Have strong UI skills designing with hierarchy, usability, and accessibility in mind. Have high tolerance for ambiguity matched with desire to organize it. Have 5+ years' experience as an information architect, interaction designer, or experience designer (or similar role). Have experience with clinical and human subjects research and familiar with clinical and research workflows. Have strong attention to detail, time management skills, and proficient with the MS Office Suite. Can sit for prolonged periods of time at a computer and/or desk, and move between buildings within the Bethesda, MD campus.
