They will have a clearunderstanding of law enforcement principles and practices. The ideal candidate will be a contributing member of thePolice Department executive team and must haveexcellent communication and problem-solving skills todevelop and maintain close working relationships withother key members of staff of all levels. The Deputy Police Chief, reporting directly to the PoliceChief/Deputy City Manager, will perform highly responsibleadministrative and technical police work in the direction ofpersonnel and activities of the Police Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The following duties are normal for this position. These arenot to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Otherduties may be required and assigned. Assists in the coordination of the internal activities andfunctions of the day-to-day operations of the PoliceDepartment. Recommend changes to improve organization,administration, and operation of the Police Department. Conducts special studies and investigations. Recommendsselection, placement, promotion, transfer, training,development, safety, and discipline of departmentalpersonnel. Assist in the development and implementation ofdepartment policy, procedures, rules and regulations. Assumes duties of the Police Chief in his absence. Educational & Certification RequirementsBachelor’s degree in criminology, law enforcement, publicadministration, or related field. Ten (10) years’ experiencein law enforcement and responsible administrativepositions and two (2) years of which must have been at thecommand staff level. Must be a certified police officer inthe State of Florida. CompensationThe a n n u a l i z e d salary range for the Deputy PoliceChief is $98,963.06 to $175,552.79. The city will offer acompetitive salary commensurate with experience andqualifications. The city offers a comprehensive benefitspackage that includes health insurance, paid holidays,personal leave and membership in the City’s Police/FirePension.
