National Grid is hiring a Transmission Development Director. This position can sit in Boston, MA or Brooklyn, NY. Job Purpose
The Transmission Development Director (TDD) will lead the development and delivery of our competitive onshore transmission infrastructure and work across the NGV NE organization overseeing origination, project development, commercial evaluations, engineering, design and siting/permitting support working closely with all shareholders, suppliers, technical and commercial teams. The TDD will also work closely with our broader National Grid Ventures team to help advise and support on transmission policies at the state and federal levels, grid integrations and other transmission development plans including liaising with Offshore Wind teams. The Transmission Director will be responsible for supporting the development of a holistic US northeast competitive transmission strategy and the underlying business cases to develop competitive projects that have adequate returns and risk mitigations for capital investment by NGV. The TDD will be a member of the Chief Commercial Officer’s leadership team working closely with internal and external technical experts, internal functional stakeholder groups such as Government Affairs, Finance etc., existing and future Joint Venture partners (including Transco), to support permitting, site selection, equipment procurements, front-end engineering activities and help establish the necessary logistics, environmental and regulatory permitting, contract management and any other steps, as required to develop and deliver the projects. The overall goal of this team-oriented role will be to enhance the company’s ability to commercialize, develop and deliver competitive onshore projects in the U.S. Northeast to meet company energy transition objectives. Key Accountabilities
Overall responsibility for onshore transmission development and delivery as a member of the management team of NGV Chief Commercial Officer team and the broader NG/NGV team delivering our clean energy transition goals in the US Northeast. Overall responsibility for transmission scope, system and asset planning, permitting and ISO interactions. Overall responsibility for maintaining and managing cost book project information. Work with commercial and financial team members to conduct valuation and commercial impact analyses of potential investments and/or RfP (Request for Proposal) opportunities (as needed). Gather and prepare information on projects to facilitate risk evaluation and decision-making. Participate and interact in strategic meetings, presenting and discussing with the business, NG Executives, JV Board(s) where relevant and/or transmission related topics. Overall responsibility for key coordination across the broader National Grid and National Grid Ventures organization with transmission expertise and other ongoing projects to ensure knowledge, process and technical capabilities sharing. Monitor and manage emerging industry related transmission policies and developments, working with stakeholder engagement teams, corporate affairs and external participants, as needed to influence and steer towards desired or favorable NG/NGV outcomes. Utilize market, competitor, and customer intelligence to support relevant teams in the development and enhancement of transmission development activities. Research external content, identifying and implementing an approach to increase industry presence. This role will involve and have responsibility for typical projects valued at well over $1b. Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant work experience in transmission infrastructure developments, policies and/or energy industry, leading complex projects. Preference, but not requirement, for undergraduate or graduate engineering degrees. Experience in working closely with company officers, holding a position of authority, command and trust within a project team or like environment. Experience working with various areas of legal requirements, such real estate, regulatory filings, commercial arrangements, supplier contracts and other, is highly desirable. Detail-oriented, quantitative & analytical skills, team-player, with solid communication skills. Experience working with or in the power sector or delivering of large infrastructure projects. Advanced writing/power point story-telling skills highly desirable. Knowledge of US power industry and transmission development is required. Knowledge of federal & NY/NJ/NE state siting processes, ISO (NYISO, PJM, NEISO) processes and policies is very highly desirable. Additional knowledge in project labor and workforce agreements are a plus. Familiarity with recent trends in conventional generation, offshore wind, energy storage, transmission & distributed generation is beneficial. More Information
