The Digital Core Sustainability Reporting Senior Manager role is responsible for managing a well-established interaction between the Sustainability, Finance, Plan to Fulfill, Lead to Cash, Source to Pay and Data workstreams to ensure that sustainability reporting requirements and controls are evaluated and embedded during the design, testing and implementation processes of the Digital Core Transformation Program. This role will work across Corporate, Segments, shared service and partner consulting teams.
This is an excellent opportunity to: Serve as an experienced associate in a complex functional area and help enhance this skillset across Mars; Manage key projects that will help units across the globe and gain a global understanding of sustainability reporting; Support the creation of guidance for key reporting areas, including data accuracy and completeness; and Build a network of Associates around the world.
This is a key role to ensure that Mars, Incorporated maintains high standards of data accuracy and completeness related to sustainability reporting. It will contribute to the sustainability reporting and control requirements to provide the foundation for reliance on data, reports, controls, and other reporting functionality underlying sustainability processes.
This position is the subject matter expert in the areas of sustainability reporting requirements, sustainability controls and how these are evaluated both within business processes and as standalone sustainability processes.
What are we looking for?
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Accounting, Finance, Business or Sustainability) required
CPA preferred, MS or MBA a plus
8+ years of experience in accounting, sustainability or risk & control roles, with a focus for at least 4-6 years in roles practicing controls (with sustainability focus)
Experience with designing, implementing and/or monitoring end to end sustainability processes and controls, including application controls.
Experience with one or several of the following: CSRD, CDP, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, TCFD
Experience with one or several of the following: SAP HANA, Oracle Financials, Oracle Cloud, Workiva ESG, Persefoni, Enablon, Veritas and PowerBI
Experience with Big 4 public accounting, CPG, manufacturing, or service-based industries
Experience with privately owned, global, decentralized organization
What will be your key responsibilities?
Lead effort to identify and evaluate potential sustainability reporting requirements and controls in financial and associated systems, including scoping and coordination of workstreams
Ongoing partnership with Corporate Controllership, Sustainability, the Segments, the Digital Core workstream partners and Digital Technologies to align the respective sustainability reporting and control requirements embedded within each project workstream, as well as across the project.
Create an enhanced set of sustainability reporting and control requirements to reduce the potential risks to Mars associated within business/sustainability processes and underlying applications
Management and communication of sustainability reporting policies and control requirements, including data certifications and management of mandatory reporting requirements.
Creation of additional guidance and requirements based on new technology available, and related process changes, within Mars
Governance & Oversight
Coordinate across all metric owners and project teams to ensure governance, control, and high-quality data resulting in robust Sustainability Reporting
Manage data governance program and ensure governance approach meets standards for various disclosure levels (e.g., banks, rate agencies)
Work with data owners to set and perform regular monitoring for Sustainability Reporting metrics
Analyze, summarize, and consolidate data into cohesive reporting; presenting data trends, insights and related recommendations
Develop and implement a risk-based approach to prioritizing highest-risk Sustainability Reporting areas
Controls
Develop and implement a Sustainability Reporting control framework to cover all metrics and related processes including:
Identification of risks specific to each metric, the related controls required to mitigate those risks, and the control owners
Develop and review process documentation, as well as creating test plans, assessing test results, and establishing remediation plans
Engage and educate Sustainability Reporting data owners, especially non-S&F functions, to develop a strong controls culture including educational materials and training
