Job DescriptionAs the Head of Digital, you will lead a talented team of digital content editors and reporters, guiding them to create engaging and dynamic content for our web and mobile platforms. Your daily responsibilities will include managing the editorial voice, developing content strategies, and ensuring that our digital presence meets and exceeds growth goals. You will collaborate closely with various departments, including Ad Sales and Marketing, to deliver content that not only entertains but also drives business objectives. This role is crucial in our larger ecosystem, as you will be at the forefront of our digital initiatives, helping to shape the future of our content and its impact on our audience.
Responsibilities:
- Actively manage a team of digital content editors and reporters who create digital and social content for our various web and mobile platforms.
- Clearly communicate the vision for our digital content, develop strategy, and teach tactics within the department and throughout the organization.
- Achieve and exceed established multiplatform growth goals, including live-game streaming, fan engagement, and content consumption metrics.
- Oversee the editorial voice and tone of all elements published on our website, mobile, and social platforms.
- Collaborate with other content leaders to create unique, entertaining content that performs on multiple platforms and engages viewers/fans throughout the day.
- Partner with Ad Sales to deliver content that meets the needs of the advertising business, attracts new clients, and delivers the impressions needed to fulfill campaigns.
- Coordinate with Marketing to deliver editorial and marketing content for social platforms.
- Work closely with Video Content Producers/Editors on podcast development, distribution, and promotion.
- Manage the digital department budget, including staff expenses and allocated corporate costs.
- Utilize data analytics and audience research to maximize customer acquisition and response to our web and mobile app content. Work with NBC Sports Group's Command Center to develop appropriate KPIs and capitalize on national and regional content consumption trends.
- Work with headquarters on initiatives including TVE Streaming, Direct-to-Consumer Offerings, App Development, and Website/Mobile web design and national third-party partnerships.
- Attend necessary multiplatform-related NBC Sports Corporate meetings and conference calls, and report new initiatives and updates to the President and General Manager of NBC Sports Bay Area and California.
- Coordinate with the Network strategy team to manage all online/mobile traffic and analytical requests and implement content strategy initiatives across multiple platforms.
- Foster relationships with team partners including the Giants, A's, Warriors, Sharks, Kings, and 49ers.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of multiplatform newsroom experience.
- Minimum 3 years managing multiplatform content teams.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience/mastery of digital publishing tactics such as SEO, social media promotion, and writing voice/tone.
- Experience with modern media analytic tools required.
- Former experience working within sports or professional leagues, teams, and athletes required.
Desired Qualifications
- Candidate will have created and/or led a team of digital platform(s) content creators, preferably within a digital-first environment, and achieved significant growth metrics for content distribution across digital and social platforms.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision.
- A team player who can both lead and roll up their sleeves in a manner that helps foster a fun work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and edit all writing styles, including quick-twitch blogs, original reporting, and compelling long-form features.
- Proven understanding of how digital and linear teams can and should work together to produce premium multiplatform content.
- Knowledge of Bay Area/Sacramento franchises and athletes is a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
- Must be willing to work in San Francisco, CA.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.

Salary Range
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
