Job Summary and Qualifications
The Emergency Department Technician under the direction of the RN assist with patient care in the Emergency Department. Responsible for knowing the purpose, expected results, and safety factors in the care given. He/she is responsible to the Charge Nurse and/or area of responsibility. The EMT is responsible for patient safety and expected to keep knowledge and skills up to date. Maintains proper channel of communication and keeps appropriate persons informed as to the patients condition.
What you will do in this role:
* Ability to prioritize patients for triage and complete intake process * Demonstrates appropriate application and use of restraints * Escorts patients into treatment area from waiting room, assists with undressing and applying of gown * Checks and stocks cubicles of ED supply to include linen and gowns * Puts away supplies in a neat and orderly fashion * Ensures patient's comfort needs are met by offering bedpans, urinals, emesis basins, blankets, and nourishment to patients * Able to perform all aspects of venipuncture including the collection of specimens * Ensures specimens are labeled correctly and transported to the lab * Obtains and records vital signs accurately; repeat vitals as needed and records. * Charges items appropriately Readies treatment area for next patient by changing linens, emptying trash, restocking supplies, etc * Checks equipment on a shift basis and notifies appropriate person of problem * Reports directly to the nurse assigned to the patient when orders have been carried out and the patient is ready for discharge * Cleans and dresses wounds, sets up and preps patient for suture procedures * Under the supervision of the nurse applies ace wraps, splints, fits patients with crutches and assists patient with crutch training
What qualifications you will need:
* Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date * Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License required * Minimum education required - High School or equivalent * No Travel Required * Meditech experience required * 1-3 years required experience in health care field
