Position Summary Department: OMG Jewett Windermere Status: Full-Time Title: PAC, Physician Assistant ORLANDO HEALTH JEWETT ORTHOPEDIC INSTITUTE Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is one of the region's largest orthopedic and sports medicine practices, providing comprehensive care for more than 250,000 patients each year. This August, the institute will open Florida's first dedicated orthopedic hospital, featuring 75 private inpatient rooms, 10 operating suites with four virtually connected suites that can be used to train surgeons around the world, and a state-of-the-art research and innovation center with a 10-station bio skills lab and 3D printer. In March, a new medical pavilion opened adjacent to the hospital and houses outpatient clinics, an imaging suite, physical therapy spaces and the largest orthopedic ambulatory surgery center in Florida. Under the supervision of the physician, according to established practice guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards, provides inpatient and outpatient management, consultations, and co-management of surgical patients. Location: 62 Columbia St, Orlando, FL 32806 Responsibilities Essential Functions Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, diagnostic studies and recognizes deviations from the normal. Then develops a diagnosis and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implements the treatment plan. Surgically close wounds, incision and drainage, debridement, dressing (the surgeon must remain in the immediate area). Scrub with collaborating surgeon in operating room Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed Diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence based medicine. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care and outcomes Dictates and documents in an accurate and timely manner. Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds. Participates in the department call rotation and/or weekend/ holiday rounding as required. Prescribe medication Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators Supports IRB approved clinical research/trials through a variety of activities including but not limited to: ordering diagnostic tests, prescreening patients, recording laboratory and diagnostic results, administering therapeutic interventions per trial protocols and documenting outcomes per hospital and trial protocols. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions Acts as a role model and resource person for staff. Assists in teaching students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures. Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures. Establishes relationships with professional and other health-related groups within the community. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families. Qualifications Education/Training Graduate of accredited physician assistant program. Licensure/Certification Current licensure in State of Florida renewed every two years to include prescriptive authority. Maintains NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants). Maintains BLS certification. Maintains ACLS, NRP, PALS certification as required by department. Experience None
