Your responsibilities include assisting with sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, medication filling, and medication distribution. All services are provided in strict compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Join us in making a positive impact on patient well-being!\n\n Pharmacy Technician Responsibilities:\n Filling:\n\nDemonstrate consistent ability to work in the Sterile Product area, preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique.\nAssist in the preparation of oral and injectable medications, including intravenous admixtures and Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), ensuring correct patient administration at the appropriate time.\n\n \n Distributing:\n\nRetrieve medications that have been discontinued and return them (including necessary credits) to the appropriate pharmacy area.\nParticipate in the distribution of medication, including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts, and the delivery of controlled substances per department policy and state and federal requirements.\nDevelop and maintain positive and productive service relationships during the medication distribution process.\nDemonstrate a high level of accuracy and skill in maintaining controlled substance records and managing the distribution process for controlled substances.\n\n Documenting:\n\nUtilize computer skills to process and maintain all patient information and records.\nMaintain all patient information and records.\nEnsure the pharmacy computer system is up-to-date.\nKeep all pertinent documentation in order. This includes maintaining eye wash logs, refrigerator logs, perpetual inventory logs, and other necessary records.\nAudit and maintain accurate records for controlled substances.\n\n \n \n \n General:\n\nCreate and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.\nMaintain and update automated medication stations, unit and department stock, emergency boxes, and crash carts.\nProvide and receive information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.\nProcure and maintain adequate inventory levels on a daily basis in applicable areas, such as pharmacy medication stock rooms, automated medication carousels, and automated dispensing machines.\nPractice appropriate hand hygiene both in the pharmacy and in patient care units.\nHandle sales transactions using the cash register and follow proper cash handling policies and procedures.\nEnsure that all medications in all areas are safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.\nAssist in training pharmacy personnel and students.\nComply with Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA), regulations (e.g., OSHA), and Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) contracting requirements (e.g., FWA and CMS).\n Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:\n\nCompletion of an accredited pharmacy technician program\nSix months of previous pharmacy technician experience\nSix months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System\nEnrollment in a college program and in good standing\n\n \n Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.\n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
