Job Description: Join Our Community!\n \nANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Surgical Technologist to support our Operating Room at the McCandless location. While this position is for the CVOR team, rotation through cases in the general OR during business hours is expected, depending on volume of CVOR cases and staffing. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience.\n\n We are currently offering a generous sign-on bonus for all full-time Surgical Technologist positions! The amount of the sign-on bonus is dependent upon your years of Surgical Technology experience. Sign-On Bonus Details:\n\n0-1 years of experience: 2-year commitment $10,000; 3-year commitment $12,000\n1-2 years of experience: 2-year commitment $12,000; 3-year commitment $17,000\n2+ years of experience: 2-year commitment $15,000; 3-year commitment $25,000\n\n\nShift Details:\n\nDaylight Monday - Friday \nCall in cardiac/vascular\nShifts will be further discussed during the interview \n\n \n Responsibilities:\n\nEnsure all medications are labeled and handed to surgeon according to established policies and procedures.\nBefore an operation, help to prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.\nAssemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment. \nAdjust and check equipment to ensure it is working properly.\nDuring surgery, efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.\nHold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site under the supervision of the surgeon and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.\nAssist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and helps apply dressings.\nAssist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.\nAfter surgery, may help transfer patients to the recovery room.\nClean and restock the operating room.\nPrepare patients for surgery by wash, shave, and ensure aseptic incision sites.\nMay transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.\nEnsure clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards and aseptic technique.\n\nEntry level job 0 - 2 years' experience\nPA legislature House Bill 81 enacted 10/29/2020 and became effective 12/27/2020\n\nMust have completed program sponsored by nationally recognized institution\nOR programmatic accreditation and maintains certification\nOR has completed appropriate military training program\nOR maintains certification from accredited program\nOR was employed as a surg tech in a health care facility on or before effective date of the act (12/27/2020)\nOR employed as a surg tech at another health care facility two years before effective date (12/27/2020).\n\n\nContinuing education requirements: For individuals not certified - must complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years.\nSpecialty experience: Surgical specialties include but are not limited to: general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, neurosurgery, organ procurement and endoscopic surgical settings.\nAccess to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.\n\n Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:\n\nCertified Surgical Technologists (CST) OR Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) within 6 months of program completion\nBasic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)\nAct 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal\nAct 33 with renewal\nAct 34 with renewal\nAct 73 FBI Clearance with renewal\nStaff employed to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before the effective date of the law (12/27/2020) or who were employed as a surg tech at another health care facility two years before effective date of the law are grandfathered and therefore not required to have certification\n\n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
