ID225814Job TypeFull-timeTesla participates in the E-Verify ProgramWhat to ExpectThe Drive System Engineering team is looking for a world class engineer specialized in tribology modeling and EIBD (Electrical Induced Bearing Damage) analysis through analytical simulation and engineering testing. In addition, individual is expected to further optimize existing tribology based lubrication and gearbox models of Tesla drive unit, but not limited to, and apply it to assist future design projects.Our world-class engineering teams operate with a non-conventional automotive product development philosophy of high inter-disciplinary collaboration, flat organizational structure, and technical contribution at all levels. You will be expected to challenge and to be challenged, to create, to innovate. You must want to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company. You’ll work alongside accomplished, world-renowned engineers on perhaps the most exciting automotive programs in existence today.This position within the Drive Systems Engineering teamwork side by side with engineers to support the development of our world class drive units. Projects can be open-ended, and the individual must strive in a challenging environment. This is a non-traditional role as candidate is expected but not limited to lead and work collaboratively with existing team members on the following process.What You’ll DoUnderstand system specs and sensitivitiesBuild high fidelity EIBD system model (tribology, tribo-chemical, and electrical based) connected with in house electromagnetic models. The goal is to inform current and future designOptimize the existing and innovate new EIBD characterization testing equipment and testing methodsUnderstand the existing EIBD migration system design and input variablesValidate and optimize model through tribometer level and drive unit level characterization testingAnalyze data and find most cost friendly EIBD mitigation solution which meet design requirementsOrganize cross functional teams to tackle this system challengeOptimize the current system tribology modelApply tribology simulation to assist design projectsWhat You’ll BringUnderstanding tribological simulation of various contact mechanics and quickly build high fidelity models to predict tribological conditions to drive hardware design decisionsUnderstanding of EIBD mechanism in drive unit (drive inverter, electric motor, and gearbox), corresponding failure mechanism, and mitigation solutionsUnderstanding of bearing failure mechanismBackground in electrical engineering and mechanical engineeringExperience with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Python, etc.)Experience in 3D modeling a plus.
