Position Purpose/Summary

The Construction Tech is committed to providing the highest quality of service to the communities, customers, and employees we serve. This position is a trainee level position and is responsible for learning the duties and responsibilities of a Telecommunications Technician to be able to provide basic installation, testing, maintenance and repair of telecommunication facilities and equipment, such as, but not limited to, COE, CATV, CPE, OSP, buildings, and vehicles in a safe and proper manner as set forth by company policy and without constant supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Learns to install and maintain basic telecommunication services.
  2. Setup and operate road safety devices per instructions from lead person on the crew.
  3. Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery.
  4. Levels earth to fine grade and company specifications using hand tools.
  5. Positions, joins, align and seals telecommunication conduit.
  6. Demonstrates good customer service skills.
  7. Learns to install pedestals, protectors and groundings.
  8. Learns to perform routine office maintenance and/or repairs on equipment (such as, batteries, alarms, air filters and general fluid levels) and following procedures for maintaining site logs and records.
  9. Learns to locate telecommunication cable.
  10. Learns to splice and repair new and existing telecommunication cable.
  11. If applicable, learns and becomes certified to climbs poles & towers to install or repair telecommunication lines and facilities.
  12. If applicable, learns to troubleshoots from the pedestal to the customer television set, including changing out tap plates and cutting in taps where necessary for a new installation.
  13. Learns to troubleshoot malfunctioning telecommunication cables using testing devices such as meters and analyzers, to locate and the diagnose nature of the problem.
  14. Learns to assist Telecommunication Technicians with various duties and projects, as needed.
  15. If applicable, operates equipment such as, but not limited to, back hoes, trenchers, cable plows, or dozers.
  16. Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  2. Ability to use appropriate computer programs (including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite) which includes having proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.

  6. Knowledge of and the ability to comply with Companys Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) regulations and procedures.
  7. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, as needed, to best serve our customers.

Qualifications

At a minimum, the Construction Tech must have a HS Diploma or GED, A valid drivers license, for those drivers license that are not issued by the state of Alaska, you are required to convert your license to an Alaska Drivers License pursuant to AS 28.15.021 (2) any employee who will be driving while in the state of Alaska, must obtain an Alaska Driver's license within 90 days of entrance into the state. Failure to do so will result in the termination of your employment until such license is obtained.
